    3. Thank you for your input. I'll see what our librarian can find out about the German Newspapers. I wish I could spend a month up there to research, preferably in the fall, no snow. It's a shame about Carbon's lack of Historical Society. I thought they used to have an appointment only place in Jim Thorpe. I heard that there is a Towamensing Twp. Historical Society but I don't know how to get in touch. Nancy Nancy J. 3. Nancy and group, Mike is right that the earlier newspapers didn't list much of an obit when someone died. It's very frustrating. But, as I've been researching the old Slatington News, I've found the local "gossip" news to be interesting. It will say if someone is on the sick list, or is so-and-so when to visit their brother in XYZ, and other random things like that. It's very time consuming but you can pick up odds and ends that make your research have more depth. Also, I do know there was a German newspaper, I think it was called der Frieden's Bote; and I think there was one called the Republikaner. Forgive me if I mangled these names, I should take the time to look these up but I'm going off the top of my head here. I'm sure there was others. Another thing against us in Carbon Co. is that there isn't a really good, organized historical society. Lehigh Co. has some records, Easton Library has some more and Monroe Co. has a few more. Carbon Co. is sorely lacking in this area which makes our genealogy quest that much harder. Michelle On 10/21/06 7:30 AM, "Nancy J. 1. Re: [PACARBON] Palmerton / Lower Towamensing Newspapers
    2. It would have to be a prominent person as obits are rare from that 1830's era. They also tended to only list the fact the person died on a specific date and other bio information was rare. Most obits from this era are worthless. Mike
