Mike, Drifting is in Clearfield County near Grassflat/Phillipsburg. Not really too far for someone to travel and I do think that they did often travel as my grandfather Snyder came from Centre County. There was no Cameron County in 1849, nor is there a Burnside Township in the county. In 1849 I believe Driftwood, Gibson Township would have been in Elk County. Where are you seeing Driftwood and Drifting in the same map? Driftwood has been Driftwood since at least 1795, except for a brief period when it was called Second Fork. Hope that helps!
