Sounds like a different family, but then, you can never tell. My Henry Haines was born in NY state approx 1808 according to census records. I have no definitive proof that he is my ancestor, but I am becoming more and more sure that my gg-grandmother Rebecca Seelye was his daughter. It appears that many of the old families that lived in Beechwood / Rathbun are descendents of Henry, and I think that most, if not all of the Hanes' families still in St. Marys are his descendents too. I just found Henry in Cortland NY a few days ago, listed right beside William Seelye, who I believe may be my ggg-grandfather, but again, I have no definitive proof -- just a bunch of families who move around together and never intermarry. n a message dated 1/4/04 4:24:59 PM Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes: << Hi Lauria, My great great grandfather Cables N. Hi Laura, My mother's mother was Hanes. Her name was Mary Elizabeth Hanes. She was born November 3, 1857 in Upper West Creek which I think refers to Beechwood/Rathbun area. Her father was David J. Hanes who was born July 1828 in New York State and died October 8, 1859 and was buried at Lewisville, PA, foot of Benninger. Hill.(I haven't the least idea where this place is.) In the 1850 Census David and Elizabeth and two children are listed. Their name is spelled Haynes. My grandmother's brother is lisred in the 1880 census as David C. Haynes. I think a lot of the different spelling in censuses have to do with the census taker. Hanes was the way the famly spelled their name. Maybe somehow they could be related to your Henry.
