Hi Helen, A simple explaination might be that a "Hollow" is a hollowed out area that is sunk into a mountain that does or does not have a "Run" of water running down it. Why some are considered "Runs" while some are called "Hollows" I will leave up to you, because I have seen Hollows with runs in them and Runs that run through a Hollow. Just the luck of the draw I would guess. I lived on E 6th Stree Ext. for a while and everyone always said that the were going around the Hollow when they continued up the extension and went aound by the Homestead( think that it is where Bauer Run is, in Plank Road Hollow). Anyway perhaps others may wish to help out on this one.
