We have talked several times about the microfilms of the Cameron County Press that may or may not be at the High School Library. I spoke to the librarian recently and she told me that she DOES have the microfilms, but the microfilm reader does not work. Apparently, she has put the repair or replacement of the reader in her budget but it was not approved. She also has the bound hard copy of the Cameron County Press back to the 1930's. At this time, they are not available to the public was she is concerned as to the condition of them and how they would stand up to being leafed through. She is afraid they are too brittle and feels that their preservation are her responsibility. I told her of the Historical Society's plan to build a Genealogy Library and got an indication that these resourced could be turned over to the Society. She did not come out and say that, but indicated it may be a possibility. So there is the stuff on this ever changing story! Mike: You are doing a wonderful job & are one of the best as far as getting things done to help researchers I have seen in a LONG time. You are out there seeking new sources for research everytime we turn around. I wish we could clone you & send you to some of these other genealogy groups (they ask for 3 & 4 times the amount of your dues & you got a guest speaker 8 or 9 times a year & their web site leaves a whole lot to be desired). I am refering to the group I belonged to back Home. You would be a real asset to this group. The thing that got to me the most was the way the Historical Society & the Genealogical Society worked together...... They Didn't! As I have told you in personal e-mails this is the best site I have been to in a long time & that this group has a lot to be proud of; ALL of you work together for this cause & IT SHOWS. GOD BLESS ALL of YOU !
