In answer to Diane Perkins' question. HS is house number, DW is dwelling number, and FM is Family number. Sometimes there are two families living in one dwelling - a duplex, for instance. In all the censuses I have transcribed, I do not ever remember seeing house numbers indicated. I do believe the dwelling number is arbitrarily assigned as the enumberator went from house to house. Hard to say if he went up one side of a street and then down the other side or, if he went back later to a home if there was no one at home to answer his questions. All in all, I don't thnk these numbers are really significant to the census. Mary Ellen Smith _________________________________________________________________ Is your computer infected with a virus?
