    1. [PA-CAMERON] Relevance of House Numbers and Street Names in Leftmost Columns of Census Forms
    2. Mary Ellen: Perhaps out in the countryside and in farmland these house numbers are less relevant than in the towns. In tracing my wife's FINK relatives in the city of Bradford, McKean County, PA, I did in fact find a direct correlation between the house numbers listed on an individual head of household's enumeration line within each census page and the perpendicular inscription of the actual street name on the left hand margin of the page. The verification for this was in the newspaper obituaries which, 40-50 years ago, included the home address of the recently deceased. Today our newspapers no longer print these addresses because in larger cities predators would rob the homes while the bereaved family was attending the funeral, etc. But my E-mail is simply to add a footnote to your discussion and observe that, at least within the larger towns, the house numbers often do in fact reflect the true street address numbers. Best Regards, George Stevens, Fort Washington, MD.
