    3. Anyone remember Baldo's Shoe Repair?? The Historical Society will soon be the new owners of the contents! For some reason, through the family and two owners...no one has touched the shop since Mr. Baldo passed away. It is exactly as he left it. The present owners are donating the content to the Society. We will probably build a replica of the shop on the Museum property to house the collection. A neat piece of Emporium History spared! Mike Wennin Come Visit the Cameron County Genealogy Project! http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacamero

    3. The previous owners showed the building and contents to me last summer. It is really neat! I remember going there as a kid and it is all exactly the same. I'm sure my mouth was gaping as I looked around. I loved it!! That's great that it was donated. 3. Mike, Congratulations on your appointment to the Historical Society's BOD. Yes, it is a new day! Hooray!! A thought on Dick Baldo's shop in the interest of historical preservation....would it not be even better to get the owners to also donate the original building itself and then move it and its contents to the Historical Society's grounds?? It's not that big; it would easily fit on a tractor trailer flat bed, and I suspect there are still a few folks in town who know how to move a (small) building...and I know there are more than a few trucks around capable of holding it...In return, offer to build a replica of the original building on the owners in-town lot or provide them fair compensation so they could build whatever type of replacement structure they wanted???? Maybe it's a pie-in-the-sky idea and maybe the cost would be prohibitive (somehow I don't think so) but I think it is worth pursuing especially if the Society would build a replacement structure anyway to house the shop's contents...maybe students in the manual arts classes at the high school could take it on as a project and the Emporium Foundation could be cajoled into helping with the project by making a contribution to the Society to help defray some of the costs...and what about asking the Foundation to make a contribution (seed money for equipment and supplies) to the Historical Society to help it launch some of the desperately needed archiving and researching initiatives we've all recommended and discussed??? Or using the shoe shop project as a catalyst for community fundraising (money, donated time and services, etc.) for the Society and its goals? Again, just another thought to add to the kettle... Again, congratulations on both your BOD appointment and on receiving the shoe shop's contents.
