    1. [PA-CAMERON] Thank You, Cameron County Gen. site friends, eg: birth records
    2. John Sitnik
    3. Thank You Everyone, Anyone have Cabin Fever, Yet? Your compliments about the birth records are appreciated. Some of you are aware of my accident in which I got my fingers on my right hand chewed up in a snow blower last year. I want to Thank many of you for your Concerns and Prayers, While I have been recuperating. Your concern has meant so much to me and my family. We maybe spread all over this Blessed Land of the United States of America... But We all have something in common... Our ties to Cameron County, PA via our families. These common ties are still what makes us a family, It Does not matter Who or Where we are. I may have purchased the copies of the birth records to transcribe. My son, William, and I did the best that we could to decipher the information. It still would not have been possible to correct and collect the additional information if it were not for everyone taking time for all of the other projects... Books of Tombstone Inscriptions and Burial Plots of Cameron and Elk Counties, (by Sarah & Iris Caskey) and Clinton County by the Clinton County Clinton County Genealogical Society, along with The Halenbake Ross Library in Lock Haven, who took the time & care keeping family Index cards relating to Newspaper Articles) the Census records, (in which: Mary Ellen Smith did a fantastic job transcribing.), marriage records, (by: Don Hefright) obits (also by: Don Hefright & others), family files (from most of us), files and documents contributed from all of us (Cathy, Dee, Dianne, Helen, Pam, Randy,... and many, Many, MANY!!! Others, Thank You, for just being you.) A Special ! Thank You to: Mike Wennin, for putting up with numerous reports that I have sent to him in the wrong format (RTF ???) and also the wealth of other information that is available on "OUR" site because of Mikes and others diligent work. Last Month on January 5th, I had additional corrective hand surgery. I hope to be able to use both hands and what remains of my fingers on my right hand again by this Spring. (Just in case anyone was wondering how I found the time to get anything done and why I have not been in contact some of you for a long time.) Again, A Very Special Thank You and May God Bless Each and Everyone of You, J.P. Sitnik & family [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>

My cousin Jack Cox and I may be able to find something in our photo collections. Jack has been corresponding with U. Bob's granddaughter and she may be able to help us out.

    3. Hello: This to let you know that I agree with all your e-mails & I will say this AGAIN, this is the Best Site I have visited & the Group works as just that & it shows. You have more on this site then some of the others combined & you should be very proud of all your combined efforts. This group is ONE FOR ALL & ALL FOR ONE. You all work for a goal----the same goal. I have just joined the Club & have found out more in the last month from this site than I have found in years of searching in another county & some of that was invalid.....like my g-grandfather had sued my g-grandmother for divorce when it was the other way around & she filed in Cameron Co. Mike got me on the right track there. Its things like that that make you all so very special. He also lead me to some one who helped me get something else settled, that I was questioning. Kepp up the good work I for one will refer this site to any one seeking info in your area with a very high recommendation. Linda Bauman

Most of the records are spelled the old fashioned way....they way they sound! LOL He not only typed them out, but also cross referenced them to other resources to make sure they were correct and made notes with references when they were not. He put a ton of time and effort into this. Thanks J. P.!!!! Also added a Brief History of Gibson Schools covering from about 1904-1960. Under Townships. Thanks!! 1. [PA-CAMERON] Club Meeting/ St. James records
    2. Mike
    3. Just a quick note that the meeting was well attended with 20 people. Airing the meeting times on channel 9 brought in 2 new people and I think reminded several others. Dave Reed did a fascinating talk about the available records. I know I learned about a couple sets of records I was not aware of, including annual coroner's reports that go back to the 1880's! I will let you know what is involved with these as they may be death records that we did not know existed. I also got a lead for where the county Civil War Pension records may be. We will publish the details of the available records with the full report of the meeting. Some not so good news is that the St. James Church records that I was looking forward to getting were only the list of graves that we already have online. :( I was under the impression that this person had the church books....oh well. Having a speaker made all the difference. I am open to ideas and suggestions for future speakers!! PLEASE HELP!! 1. RE: [PA-CAMERON] Runs and Hollows
    2. Pete Bennett
    3. Hi Helen, A simple explaination might be that a "Hollow" is a hollowed out area that is sunk into a mountain that does or does not have a "Run" of water running down it. Why some are considered "Runs" while some are called "Hollows" I will leave up to you, because I have seen Hollows with runs in them and Runs that run through a Hollow. Just the luck of the draw I would guess. I lived on E 6th Stree Ext. for a while and everyone always said that the were going around the Hollow when they continued up the extension and went aound by the Homestead( think that it is where Bauer Run is, in Plank Road Hollow). Anyway perhaps others may wish to help out on this one. 3. According to the American Heritage Talking Dictionary———————————————————— run (r¾n) REGIONAL NOTE: Terms for "a small, fast-flowing stream" vary throughout the eastern United States especially. Speakers in the eastern part of the Lower North (including Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania) use the word run, as in Bull Run. Speakers in New York State are liable to call such a stream a kill (a Dutch borrowing). Brook has come to be used throughout the Northeast. Southerners refer to a branch, and throughout the northern United States the term is crick, a variant of creek. ———————————————————— hol·low (h¼l"½) Appalachian Mountains. A small valley between mountains

    02/07/2004 06:56:59
    1. Re: [PA-CAMERON] Runs and Hollows
    2. For what it's worth, here's my two cents on the subject. I don't know if it's geologically correct, but it is how I grew up understanding it. Helen, I am assuming that you are familiar with the shape of the Appalachian mountain range? It is a fold range, therefore all the mountains are very long and relatively narrow and run in a SW to NE direction. The low places between each 'fold', running parallel to the tops of the mountains are the valleys, but if you stand in a valley and look at the face of the mountains, you see little valleys that are perpendicular to the mountain top cut into the face. These are hollows. In many places, if you walk into these hollows, you can find traces of old farms because this is where many of the old pioneers chose to settle. Why? My guess would be because they were easily defined with definate borders, had water (most of them will have a small stream) and were far enough away from the main creek to keep them out of the floods, but still close enough to provide navigation. Many of these hollows still have the name of the first settler. River (Susquehanna), Branch (East, West, Bennetts, etc), Creek (West, Clear, Pine, etc), Run are all names of waterways, and usually named in size order. Going upstream, the rivers break into branches, the branches into Creeks, and creeks are built by the combination of Runs. Of course, that's just a general rule, because some of the runs can empty straight into the river, but you get the general idea.
