    2. Oh MIke - Thanks!!! That Elk County Census clears up a lot of mystery - as family oral history places the family there - and I've looked for validation of that for years and found none. Guess, I was looking too early. I think the Genie Angels wanted me doing other things for a while. Because!!!! I have spent hours at the Cameron County site and have cleared up a lot of mysteries, and of course as a consequence, created more. LOL It appears that my mother's paternal and maternal lines were ALL in the same vicinity around the same time. While the WEAVER/WEBER line was in Sterling Run, the KING/FISK/HERSHEY lines were in Driftwood. An obit for Andrew Jackson HERSHEY says he married the Widow KING FISKE (1 child, who fits my ggram Mary F. Hershey, b. 1849 Driftwood - more about her later) ca 1860 in the lumber region of Clearfield County. Documents list A. J.'s wife as Sara, Susan and/or Susannah. A. J. and Sara/Susan's children John b. Bald Eagle, Clrfld County 1861, and Sara bd. and place unknown. At some point A.J. and Sara/Susan settled in Snow Shoe, Centre County. Mary F. apparently took her stepfather's (A.J.) name. She subsequently married James OSWALT, b. 1847 Potter Tshp, Centre County where all their children were born, and the, James and Mary, are buried. One puzzle has been determining Mary's original surname. Family oral history has her related to the KING family - but I have been unable to find a Sara, Susan, or Susannah KING fitting the stats. I did find a John KING, wife Sara, family in with a year old dau on the 1850 Burnside Census. Checking earlier censuses, I found BECK family with dau Sara, (as neighbors to the Reeder KING family with son John) who fits the stats for Sara KING m. to John King. I have searched for 2-3 years, but could find nothing on FISKE in the area. But, on the Cameron County wonder site today I found two - one William - too old - and one James FISK who agewise could have been spouse of the Widow KING FISKE. In a nutshell, is Mary F. a KING or a FISKE? Anyone related to this group? Any suggestions or help welcomed. Mike, thanks again for the info - gonna make my life a whole lot easier. Regards, \ Jan

    2. Hello Mike and All, Unfortunately, my most beloved computer went kaput and I lost a lot of valuable info. To add to that, someone on the 4th floor of apt. bldg began running bathwater and then fell asleep. When I awoke in the morning, being on the 1st floor, not only was my bathroom flooded, but also the closet where much of my genealogy records, papers, etc. were stored. Several months ago you informed me that ca. 1860/70 Sterling Run, Lumber Tshp, was in another County, McKean I believe, and that the RC church in that area would have been St. Mark's. Since I've looked for the printout and can't find it, I assume it was with those papers that were destroyed. Is that information correct? Also, does anyone know how accessible the RC records in that area are? I am searching for particulars of the George and Elizabeth WEAVER/WEBER family who are on the 1870 Census for Sterling Run, but the copy I have does not show county. My grandfather, George G. Weber b. 1865, is listed along with sibs Joseph, Frank and Elizabeth. George left home between 11/14 years of age. I have been unable to find him on the census again until 1910 in Dubois, Clearfield County. And, have been unable to find his parents or brothers on subsequent censuses. Two daughters entered the Sisters of Mercy convent in Dubois. There is a George Weber as head of household in Troutville on later census who fits age and immigration info for George Sr. However, he is listed with two different, much younger sons. It does not say he is a widower, but no wife is listed. On the 1870 Census, George Sr. b. ca. 1830 +-, Baden, Germany, is listed as lumberman. Another question is, does anyone know what may have happened in the lumber industry in the years after 1870, which may have caused the family to move? Was there an exodus of families from Sterling Run to any particular area in surrounding counties? Any information, ideas, help, from anyone, would be most appreciated. Regards, Jan

    3. When I 1st started researching (I was only 15, I'm now 26!) I visited (for family reunion) Emporium in 1995, and stopped in to the Cameron County Historical Society, and met Sandra Hornung. Sandra still around? Anyways, she was kind enough to copy (for a fee) all the obits for the Hout Family. I believe I have all of them, since the ones I have are also listen on Don Hefright's website (great job btw). Anyways! Would there be more than what's listed and secondly.. I've visited St. Marks cemetery several times and took pictures of a few grave sites. My Great Great Grand Parents Charles (died 1900) and Mary (died 1901) in Emporium, but weren't buried in St. Marks. Where would they have been buried?? 2. Could someone help me with a church, birth or other lookup for the above person or surname. My dilemma is that supposedly he was born in PA but I have no idea where. Other Brigance members were supposedly born around 1740 in PA as well. At that time, there were only 4 counties: Lancaster, Chester, Philadelphia and Bucks. I have searched in Philadelphia and Lancaster but I wonder when the counties split if the information went with another county outside of the Philadelphia area. Thanks!!!!!
