My great-grandfather is buried there also. In July of this year I was finally able to locate the Wissinger Plot in that cemetery. I have had four plot makers emplaced and ordered a marker on my great-grandfather's grave. When it is emplaced I will send you a photo. More obits to follow. Altoona, Blair Country, PA. OBITUARY CLARENCE LEON WISSINGER Altoona Mirror, 23 January 1920 YOUTH IS KILLED AT WELL DRILLER Caught and whirled about the shafting of a well drilling machine at the site of Caum’s new ice cream factory at Ninth avenue and Eighth street, at 5:30 o’clock last evening, Clarence Leon Wissinger, the 11 year old son of Walter G. Wissinger, a well driller, residing at 2908 Eighth avenue, received injuries that resulted in his death at the Mercy hospital at 9:18 o’clock last night. A coincidence in connection with his death is the fact that at the time of his birth, his father was engaged in drilling a well at the Caum plant at Fifth avenue and Ninth street. Clarence attended school at the Allegheny school at Fifth avenue and Thirtieth street and had been in the habit of visiting his father after school hours where the well drilling operations were going on. He arrived there shortly after 4 o’clock and was assisting in doing chores for his father. While thus engaged about the drill, in some manner the glove of his left hand was caught in the shafting and in an instant he was whirled about the large wheel of the machine. Mr. Wissinger saw the accident and he immediately shut down the drill, but not until the lad had been whirled about the shafting several times. His father picked him up and seeing that he was seriously injured, he had him taken to the hospital at once, where an examination revealed that he had sustained fractures of the left leg, left arm, three ribs, numerous body bruises and contusions and also internal injuries. His mother was summoned and the parents remained with him until he died. Clarence Leon Wissinger was the son of Walter G. and Berths M. Wissinger and was born in this city on Feb. 27, 1908. Besides his parents he is survived by these brothers and sisters: Ralph V., Walter J., Robert, Herbert, Erla M., Marian E., Helen M. and Audrey all at home. Coroner C. C. Rothrock visited the scene of the accident and will decide later on whether he deems it necessary to hold an inquest in the case.
