Wissinger, Sr., 81, 3522 Fifth Ave., died Tuesday morning Feb. 16, 1999, at Altoona Hospital, following an extended illness. He was born May 22, 1917, in Altoona, the son of the late Walter G. and Bertha M. (Reed) Wissinger. He married Roberta Barnes July 10, 1947, in Altoona. She died March 4, 1997. Mr. Wissinger was a member of First Lutheran Church. He was owner and operator of Wissinger Well and Pump Company, Altoona. Mr. Wissinger was a 1935 graduate of Altoona High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a prisoner of war during World War II, being captured during the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heard and Bronze Star medals. He was a member and former commander of the Twenty-Eighth Division, Pennsylvania National Guard. Mr. Wissinger was parade marshal in Altoona for many years, including the 1976 bicentennial parade, was past president of Kiwanis Club of Eldorado and a member of American Legion Post No. 827, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3 and Retired Officers Association. Surviving are a daughter, Linda A. Wilt of Altoona; two sons: Herbert A. Jr. of Altoona and Robert E. of Laurel, Md.; three sisters: Audrey Burchfield of Altoona and Helen Luckner and Shirley Ulrich, both of San Diego; and two brothers: Walter and Donald (should be Donn) both of San Diego; and nine grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Stevens Mortuary Inc. WISSINGER -- The funeral of Herbert Wissinger of 3522 Fifth Ave. will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Memorial Chapel of Stevens Mortuary by pastor Fred L. Romig. Interment at Alto-Reste Park. WISSINGER * Roberta D. Wissinger died 4 Mar 1997 in Altoona at the age of 74 Mrs. Roberta D. “Bobbie” Wissinger, 3522 5th Ave., died Tuesday afternoon, March 4, 1997 at Altoona Hospital, following an extended illness of pancreatic cancer. She was born July 14, 1923, in McKeesport, the daughter of Dr. Robert and Clara (Englert) Barnes. She married Herbert A. Wissinger Sr. July 10, 1947, in Altoona. Mrs. Wissinger was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Emanuelite Sunday School class and Faith Circle. She formerly worked at G.C. Murphy’s Department Store. Surviving are her husband; two sons: Herbert Jr. of Altoona and Robert of Laurel, Md.; a daughter, Linda Wilt of Altoona; two sisters: Virginia Murphy and Jean Herbert, both of Altoona; a brother, Ray of Altoona; and nine grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Stevens Mortuary.
