Readers should remember that when Altoona addresses are given for trainmen, a lot of times those addresses were Boarding Houses that were available for train crews on their layovers in Altoona until their next assignment on trains was due. This may mislead some readers as to why trainmen had an Altoona address. My Great Grandfather and Grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. David Kinch had a boarding house for years at 12th Street and 5th Avenue in Altoona. I think they had about 8 rooms in their home that handled these type of trainmen. My Great Grandfather David Kinch was the 2nd Mayor of Altoona in 1871 and also was a blacksmith for the PRR for a good many years. He originally came from Huntingdon Furnace down around 7-Stars where his Dad was a blacksmith. Herman R. Nagle Altoona, PA **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go.
