    1. Re: [PACAMBRI] Eureka Stores in mining towns
    2. Hi, My father was a coal miner in St. Michael, Pa. It, too was run by the Berwind White Coal Mining Company. We had a Eureka Store in St. Michael. There was a meat dept complete with butcher, a bakery and bread dept which sold those wonderful Marhoffers cream filled donuts, clothing dept, furniture dept and just about anything you would want to buy. Each dept had a wire line running from it and when you purchased anything the clerk would but the bill in a little container and attach it to the line and push it over to the office. We used to just watch in amazement at all those little containers going back and forth across the store. One of my fondest memories was the ice cream cones they sold. They took a cone shaped piece of ice cream that was wrapped in paper and put it down into the cone and then removed the paper. It sure was good ice cream. Oh, for the "good old days".
