Born Dec. 2, 1926, in Chest Springs, son of late John L. and Mary Ellen (Maloney) Weakland. Preceded in death by wife, former Mary Ruth Stolz, on Aug. 27, 2001; sons, Allen, in 1954, and Timothy, in 1981; grandsons, Christopher Smith and Brad Weakland; brothers, Paul Alfred, Bernard and James; and sisters, Marie Eckenrode, Mary Eckenrode and Gertrude Ivory. Survived by children, Daniel (Darlene Juba), Ebensburg; Frederick (Mona Davis), Patton; Joyce, Ebensburg; Thomas, Ebensburg; Lois Rietscha (Jack), Chest Springs; and Ann Marie Beiswenger (Jim), Ashville; also 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Brother of Theresa Sumner, Loretto R.D., and Paul “Mick” (Grace Wilt), Chest Springs. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He worked as a farmer and at Barnes & Tucker Mines, Carrolltown, for 18 years, retiring in 1979. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting and fishing. Member of UMWA and St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Chest Springs, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. Joseph Fleming, celebrant. Committal, church cemetery. The victim was identified as Timothy J. Weakland, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Weakland of Box 88, Chest Springs. Obituary on Page 4 According to Huntingdon State Police, Mr. Weakland and four companions were fishing when he decided to go for a swim. Police said the man knew how to swim and there was no explanation why he went under. The accident occurred at 6 p.m. and the body was recovered about two hours later by the Smithfield Rescue Squad. Mr. Weakland was pronounced dead by Coroner Dr. Harry H, Negley Jr. at J.C. Blair Hospital, Huntingdon, at 9 p.m. He listed the cause of death was asphyxiation due to accidental drowning. __________ Saturday, May 23, 1981, Altoona Mirror, page 4, Altoona, Blair, PA TIMOTHY J. He was born April 26, 1956, in Spangler, a son of John F. and Mary Ruth (Stolz) Weakland. Surviving are his parents of Chest Springs, six brothers and sisters, Daniel and Thomas of Chest Springs, Ann Marie at home, Frederick of Patton RD, Joyce of Ebensburg RD and Mrs. Lois Smith of Patton, and grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blair Stolz of Aberdeen, N.C. Mr. Weakland was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday in the Donald J. Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville.
