Friday, May 8, 1908 Volume 42, Number 19 Third Death from Spotted Fever at Lilly Lilly, May 2 Spotted fever has claimed within seven days the third child in the family of H. Mills in this place. The latest victim was John Smith, a stepson of Mr. Mills, seven years of age. He died at 3:20 o’clock yesterday and three and one half hours later his body was buried by Undertaker J. E. Lowry. There is one small child remaining in the Mills family, a four year old boy. The Board of Health has been very active since the fever broke out in the Mills family and the members believe they have the disease under control. Umbrella Mender Found Dead Lilly, May 4 The unknown umbrella mender whose lifeless body was found this morning in the fanhouse of the Moshannon mines of the Leahey coal company near this place is not believed to have been a victim of murder. It is the general belief that the man who Saturday evening was seen in an intoxicated condition was literary roasted alive by the heat coming from a steam pipe against which he was resting when he took his long and fatal sleep. Two Deaths at County Home Two deaths occurred Sunday at the County Home. The first was that of Francis Greigler, an Austrian, aged 50 years, who was brought to the almshouse six weeks ago from Puritan, suffering from paralysis. The second death was that of an infant son of Margaret Bohner of Johnstown. In both instances interment was made at the County Home. Richard D. Jones Dies in California Old Ebensburgers will remember Richard D. Jones, a son of the late David W. Jones and wife of this place and regret to learn of his death, April 10th in Berkley, California. The deceased was aged 57 years and his death was due to rupturing a muscle of the heart. Mr. Jones left Ebensburg about 30 years ago and has been in the real estate business in his adopted home. He leaves a widow and six children – three boys and three girls. Of brothers and sisters surviving him there are the following: William A. Jones, who has for many years been employed in the Barker Brothers’ store at Ebensburg; Mrs. Evan Bennett of Cambria Township; Dwight Jones of Guide Rock, Nebraska; Mary, wife of William A. Gittings of Pueblo, Colorado; Martha J. of Knoxville, Pittsburg; and Walter of Portland, Oregon. The funeral and interment took place at Berkley, California. Death of Miss Jennie Munden Died at Bellview, near Allegheny City, Miss Emily Munden, daughter of the late James and Ann Munden. The deceased was also a cousin of Mr. C. T. Roberts and a sister-in-law of Wm. Tate Jr. of Ebensburg.
