Cambria Freeman, Ebensburg, Pa. Friday, October 28, 1910 Volume 44, Number 42 “Bearded Lady” Becomes a Bride Indiana Farmer Marries Widely Known Circus Freak South Bend, Ind., Oct. 27 The “bearded lady” of circus fame is a bride. In private life the widely known performer is Miss Grace Gilbert of Kalkaska County, Mich., but with her marriage she becomes Mrs. Giles A. Calvin. Calvin is a farmer, fifty-three years old, nineteen years older than his wife. The “bearded lady” announced her retirement from the circus life following her marriage. She said she was born with a growth of hair on her face and that she exhibited herself as a freak for sixteen years. “I am now going back to my husband’s farm,” she said, “and will never appear in a show again.” Mr. Calvin has no whiskers, only a moustache.
