Fr. Andrew Pier, OSB, wrote this book about his childhood in or near Blandburg, Reade Township, Cambria County. He wrote it and sent it as a gift to subscribers of a religious monthly, The Ava Maria. The magazine was put out by St. Andrew's Abbey in Cleveland. Someone asked about this book. I think I have a copy that I got from a bookstore in Chapel Hill, but I can't find it now. If I find it, I will mention it. If you want a copy, you could probably contact the St. Andrew's Abbey. Fr. Andrew studied for the priesthood at St. Andrew's Slovak Benedictine Abbey in Ohio. He had a brother, Joseph, also a priest, who served locally in the Altoona Johnstown Diocese, as I saw his obituary. Their parents were emigrants and his father was a miner. They were Wendell and Anna Pier. Father graduated from the Reade Township High School, now part of the Glendale School District. He also had a brother Steven and a sister, Mary.
