Does any one know who the parents of Florene L. Conrad are? She was married to William P. Patterson. Looking for an obit for Leah (Proulx) Allen, 8 Feb 1915-9 Nov 2003. Found an on-line newspaper clip, Obituary Daily Times, Allen, Leah Marguerite (Proulx) [Edmundson], 88, Woonsocket RI, died 13491 West Winfield Herkimer County NY, Foxboro; 2003-11-20..... Tried looking at the www.archives.com website "FREE preview" and just one name pops up without a date, but then Archive immediately asked for my credit card, without giving me any clue as to whether this is the correct person. Tried using the NewsBank obituary service to search for the obit, but no luck. Leah's family is from Woonsocket, Providence County, Rhode Island, and there were two women named Leah Proulx (@1912, @1914) on the 1915-1920-1925-1930 state and federal census, so I'm trying to figure out which family is her's. I was told she died in the early 2000's so am assuming this is the correct person. Does anyone have access to this or another newspaper service that can provide me with the obituary?
I am trying to find some information about some relatives of mine who lived in Johnstown, PA from the late 1870's until right after the flood. Their names were David and Lena Myers (or Meyers) and I was able to find them in the 1880 census. I also found them in the 1889 City Directory. There were 5 people listed as living in the house at the time and all 5 survived the flood. I know that that would include David, Lena, and their son Charles who would have been 9 years old at the time and attending school. I'm trying to find out how they might have survived and who the other 2 people in the house were. I think that they might have had children after Charles, but I'm not sure. Here's what I would like to know if anybody has any information: 1. Their address was 57 1/2 Water Street. I can't find Water Street on a current map or one from the 1880's. The older maps usually have very small writing and are very hard to read. Does anyone know of Water Street and where it was located? 2. Do any birth records or school records still exist from Johnstown between 1880 and 1889 and, if so, where would I find them? I imagine that a lot of that was destroyed. I am eventually going to make a trip there, but it's about 5 hours from where I live so I want to know as much as possible before I go (hopefully this fall). Thanks, Eric Alexander

Yes, but don't forget that funeral homes aren't public entities. As private ones, they are not required to release any information to you. Most are cooperative. Be careful how you contact them because a telephone call may interrupt them with services or a mourning family. I've had great success with funeral homes -- one time when trying to track down next of kin who might have paid the bill! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Sun, 11 Aug 2013 10:52:49 -0400 From: "john bauman" <johnnyb42@verizon.net> Subject: Re: [PACAMBRI] PACAMBRI Digest, Vol 8, Issue 111 To: <pacambri@rootsweb.com> funeral homes do have the obit's for you to look at
I have a cemetery photo I'm trying to add, but I can't identify the people listed on it: COX SLATER Samson Thomas 1863 - 1945 1833 - 1913 Lillie Sarah 1871 - 1936 1832 - 1912 William Lillian 1901 - 1903 1907 - 1909 I found Lillie (d. 1936) in the obits listed as Lillie Cox, but I can't find anyone else. Are any of these people in your family tree? If so, can you tell me who's a Cox and who's a Slater? Thanks! Lynne

that is good to hear that there is something significant about the pocket watch. but now the mystery thickens. how did this watch come into the possession of my grandparents or even my great grandparents? The name Langer has no meaning to me what so ever in all my years of genealogy. Sharon In a message dated 8/10/2013 11:25:05 A.M. As far as I know there was no Langer jewelers in Johnstown. HZ Langer pocket watch - gold with a search on google I found HZ Langer pocket watches online. apparently still in production. does anyone know if there was a HZ Langer pocket watch manufacturer or jeweler in Johnstown or maybe in Cambria county between 1920 and 1945? Thank you Sharon STUTZMAN, GOLEC, BORYSZEWSKI
I am looking for anyone who might have photos of this two and half story log cabin house built by the Stutzman family in 1834. Photos from back in the old days or twentieth century. Anything would be appreciated. Thank you Sharon Sent from my iPhone
What I got in reply: I can not post it because they have a confidentially clause on the email. Whether it is binding or not is beyond me legally. >From Jim Rosenbaum
That internet access arrangement already exists with some newspapers. We live in Green Bay. We have the daily newspaper delivered to our house. Last year, they offered us and other subscribers free access to the newspaper on the internet too. There is limited space for pictures in the printed version of the paper, so they will post many more pictures of stories on the internet. As a source of news and information, the newspapers do a terrible job these days. We get the paper daily, but I seldom read it anymore. I have suggested to my wife that we stop subscribing to it, but she wants to look at the sales ads. The internet has become my primary source of the news. With regards to obituaries, I am finding many funeral homes have created web sites and now post the obituaries there. Printing and delivering a newspaper is an expensive proposition these days. It can't really compete with the internet. Printed newspapers are going the way of the buggy whip. In a message dated 8/9/2013 6:21:20 A.M. I just went to the www.johnstowntribune-democrat.com home page, clicked on "Obituaries" and then double-clicked on a couple of brief death notices, and the full obit immediately came up. Seems to be a moot point now. Here’s an idea re access to obits. A bit old school, but an option. Someone who receives a subscription at their door posts the names appearing in the obits for the day/week to this list. Then anyone on the list who has an interest contacts the poster for additional information and/or a copy. Poster determines if reimbursement is necessary. Example: Tribune-Democrat obituaries for the week of 8.1.13 Doe, John Doe, Sally Smith, Jim White, Susan This does not solve the public access issue, but could be helpful to those on this list. I actually did this for a small town/county in SE VA during the time we lived there. Response was sporadic but I provided the service as a random act of genealogical kindness and did not charge. Also communicated with some great folks. Jo Ann Lucas Everest, KS
