VALENTINE WISSINGER Altoona Tribune, 2 October 1922 RALPH H. V. WISSINGER Ralph H. V. Wissinger, son of Walter G. Wissinger, the well known local well driller, and Mrs. Bertha M. Reed Wissinger, of 2905 Eighth avenue, died at the Mercy hospital at 11:35 last night, his death being due to an abscess of the brain, from which he had suffered for two weeks. The young man, who was agent to this district for the Kewanee Private Utility company of Illinois, was well as being a skilled mechanic, returned from Johnstown about two weeks ago complaining of a severe headache. His malady rapidly grew worse and he was removed to the hospital. Had he lived until February 14 he would have been 20 years of age, having been born in this city February 14 1903. Altoona, Blair Country, PA. OBITUARY CLARENCE LEON WISSINGER Altoona Mirror, 23 January 1920 YOUTH IS KILLED AT WELL DRILLER Caught and whirled about the shafting of a well drilling machine at the site of Caum’s new ice cream factory at Ninth avenue and Eighth street, at 5:30 o’clock last evening, Clarence Leon Wissinger, the 11 year old son of Walter G. Wissinger, a well driller, residing at 2908 Eighth avenue, received injuries that resulted in his death at the Mercy hospital at 9:18 o’clock last night. A coincidence in connection with his death is the fact that at the time of his birth, his father was engaged in drilling a well at the Caum plant at Fifth avenue and Ninth street. Clarence attended school at the Allegheny school at Fifth avenue and Thirtieth street and had been in the habit of visiting his father after school hours where the well drilling operations were going on. He arrived there shortly after 4 o’clock and was assisting in doing chores for his father. While thus engaged about the drill, in some manner the glove of his left hand was caught in the shafting and in an instant he was whirled about the large wheel of the machine. Mr. Wissinger saw the accident and he immediately shut down the drill, but not until the lad had been whirled about the shafting several times. His father picked him up and seeing that he was seriously injured, he had him taken to the hospital at once, where an examination revealed that he had sustained fractures of the left leg, left arm, three ribs, numerous body bruises and contusions and also internal injuries. His mother was summoned and the parents remained with him until he died. Clarence Leon Wissinger was the son of Walter G. and Berths M. Wissinger and was born in this city on Feb. 27, 1908. Besides his parents he is survived by these brothers and sisters: Ralph V., Walter J., Robert, Herbert, Erla M., Marian E., Helen M. and Audrey all at home. Coroner C. C. Rothrock visited the scene of the accident and will decide later on whether he deems it necessary to hold an inquest in the case. Cambria Freeman, April 28 1876, page 3, column 4 This is not an ancestor of mine, but it might be one of yours! Mullen Died in Summerhill township on Monday, April 24, 1876, Mrs. Margaret Mullen, relict of Bernard Mullen, deceased, aged about 64 years. [the age is smudged but it looks like 64 years] Mrs. Mullen was born in County Longford, Ireland and came to this country about fifty years ago, during most of which time she resided in this county. Her long and eventful life was brought with many troubles but the least of which was the paralyzation of her husband some thirty years ago and the consequent devolving upon herself of the duty of providing for the wants of the family. She was a devout member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed the esteem of all who knew her. May she rest in peace. _________________________________________________________________ See how Windows Mobile brings your life together—at home, work, or on the go. http://clk.atdmt.com/MRT/go/msnnkwxp1020093182mrt/direct/01/
