    3. James R. Ballow James R. Ballow, 70, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Johnstown, died October 7, 2008 after a short stay at Claremont Nursing Home in Carlisle. He was born June 30, 1938 in Johnstown, son of the late John and Helen (Kesslak) Ballow. Surviving are his loving wife, the former Catherine (Yonick) Ballow, who for many years cared and nursed James during his long illness. Also surviving are his children, Wendy Simmons, Michelle Ballow and David Ballow, all of California; and a grandson, Matthew Simmons. He was a retired employee of General Services Administration for the State of Pennsylvania. He attended Greater Johnstown High School and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He was an avid historian and collector and seller of antique post cards. He had flea market stands at Silver Springs and Middletown. James was a member of American Philatelic Society, Capitol City Philatelic Society, West Shore Stamp Club and Temple Beth Shalom in Mechanicsburg. Because of James witty and jovial nature he was well liked by friends, neighbors and co-workers. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., Broad Street, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday. Rabbi Irvin Brandwein will officiate. Committal will be in Grandview Cemetery.
