Technically you are both correct. Othella Farabaugh's Tribune-Democrat obit also listed her mother's surname as Queen; which is probably how her family members wrote it. Othella's brother Harold Bender died two weeks later and the obit listed their mother's name as Marie (Yeckley) Bender. My records show Marie Bender was born Sara Quinn, daughter of John Quinn and Margaret Shannon. She was adopted by Charles and Christina (Krug) Yeckley when only a few years old, and was known as Marie. Many thanks to all who sent me corrected information for my initial post of Dec 12, 2008. I wanted to update to make sure my first post didn't hang on the mailing list with misinformation. Regards, Jane Tripp My post: I'm having a difficult time with the family of this John Wilt. I can't reconcile John's date of death of 1869. In the 1850 census, John Wilt is found in Clearfield Twp with wife Mary, some kids, (including son Joseph & his son) and his mother-in-law. Looks like a farm as real estate is worth $1000. In the 1860 census, Mary Wilt is living alone (family 1877) in the same dwelling (1870) as daughter Susan & her family (family 1878). No real estate money there as the only money declared is Mary's personal estate of $300 and daughter Susan's family's personal estate of $100. Next visit is her son Joseph and his second wife. Since his real estate is listed as $1000, I assume Joseph now has the farm. No John Wilt in the area. I did not find a John Wilt in any mortality census for Cambria Co., although not everyone was enumerated. My update: Although John is not found in the 1860 census, the date of death of September 30, 1869 is correct. My post: A death recorded at St. Michael's, Loretto is found in Ledoux. John Wilt, d 09-03-1869 It is only in the Kittel Index that the additional information is found. John Wilt d 09-03-1869 (m Mary Adams). The Kittel index for deaths is collected from the tombstones AND the testimony (read as memory) of his parishoners. Could be another error by the parishoners. My Update: Another description of the Kittel index goes on to say that marriages & burials may not have occurred at St. Michael's. John Wilt is buried at St. Augustine, Clearfield Twp, not St. Michael's. My post: I suggest John Wilt (d before 1860), his wife Mary (d after 1880), his son Joseph (d before 1870) and Joseph's first wife (d before 1855) are buried somewhere on the old farm in Clearfield Twp - or somewhere. I think either the John Wilt buried at St. Michael's, Loretto is not the husband of Mary Magdalena Adams OR the date on the tombstone was very hard to read and could be 1859. My update: Well forget all that. John Wilt, died September 30, 1869; buried St. Augustine, Clearfield Twp his wife Mary "Polly" Wilt, died October 14, 1884; buried at St. Augustine, Clearfield Twp his son Joseph, died 1889; buried at St. Augustine, Clearfield Twp. (although I can't find him in the 1870 or 1880 census - in 1870 wife Cecelia is in Blair Co with 2 daughters & no husband Joseph, just like his father, missing from the 1860 census) Joseph's second wife, Cecelia Wharton McGuire Wilt is buried at St. Augustine, Clearfield Twp. In fact, almost everyone is buried at St. Augustine. The only information from the above that is probably correct is that Joseph's first wife, Elizabeth Ryan, died before 1855, as he married his second wife Cecelia Wharton in Jan of 1855.

In previous posts, I mentioned that Michael J McCullough, son of John McCullough & Bridget Hagan was married twice. Finally found the maiden name of his first wife. His first marriage, cir 1885, was to Mary L McGough, born Feb 1863. Their children with most birth dates from 1900 & 1910 census: Bertha M, born 8 May 1886 (date from obit) Emma E, born Nov 1887 George T, born May 1889 John B, born Dec 1890 Demetrius A, born April 1895 Leo M, born Dec 19, 1899 (date from obit) Edith M, born cir 1902 Charles K, born cir 1906 Mary L McGough McCullough is buried at St. Michael's, Loretto with no dates on her headstone, but she died after the 1910 census and before the 1920 census. Michael J married Mary Montgomery Platt after June 1921, probably late 1921 or early 1922. He died 16 Sept 1924 and is buried at St. Michael's, Loretto. Published in the obituary of his son, Leo M is "He was born Dec. 19, 1899, at Chest Springs, the son of Michael and Mary (McGough) McCullough." I know nothing of the McGough family, but I did find one Mary McGough in Cambria Co. 1880 census - Mary McGough, age 19 [1861], a servant in the home of Demetrius McGough, age 35 in Allegheny Twp. 1870 census -Mary McGough, age 6 [1864] in the home of Thomas (35 [1835]), a painter & Mary (32 [1838]) McGough and Herbert (4) and Robert (2) in Johnstown. 1860 census- Thomas McGough (25 [1835]), painter, in the home of Gale Heslap, Master painter, in Johnstown. 1850 census - Thomas McGough (16 [1834]), in the home of James (47[1803]) & Sophia (48 [1802]) McGough and other children Esther (23), Rachel (20), William (18), Philip (14), Eliza (11), Elizabeth (9), Sophia (7) and John (5), Summerhill Twp. There is no evidence that Mary L McGough was born in or lived in Cambria Co. prior to her marriage, but that's the only place I looked. I will post Leo's obit. I am far behind on transcribing, but do post those obits I purchase or have copied from Mom's collection. Regards, Jane Tripp

from a member of the Allegheny Co, PA list: Dear Genealogy Friends, As I bring good wishes to you all for a Happy New Year, I realize that 2009 is going to be a critical year for most all of us & our genealogy is going to be a happy diversion in a world that contains more challenges than ever. That is why I would like to call your attention to how much our ancestors did to bring a better life to all of us & that we now have the responsibility to not only honor them with our remembrance of them but to uphold what they have done to the best of our ability. Therefore, I am adding this fairly short but powerful item that I have recited often in the last 37 years & hope you will truly examine what it says. Some of you may never have heard it or not paid that much attention to it, so here it is, with all my hope for all of us to, care, love & respect each other more than any other time in our lives. God Bless One & All THE AMERICAN'S CREED BY William Tyler Page I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies. -Written 1917, accepted by the United States House of Representatives on April 3, 1918.
I tried to look up the photo's on the Civil War, but the page wouldn't come up. Would you please post the address for that again? perhaps there was an erroe. Thank you. Well, this one is really muddy. I have Daniel Gray listed as the son of Philip and Susanna Lantzy Gray, as does John Pfeister. I also have his wife listed as Sarah Jones with no other information about Sarah. It appears I got his wife's name from Marilyn K. Washington. Daniel's baptismal record lists him as the son of Philip and Elizabeth Lantzy. Of course, Philip was married to Susanna Lantzy; it was Philip's brother Henry who was married to Elizabeth Lantzy. from CATHOLIC VITAL RECORDS OF CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA, by Rev. A. Ledoux, Vol. III, page 217, record #4907: KRAEH, Danielis (Philippi/Elisabethae Lanzi) b. 05-22 bp. 06-14-1853 gp: Josepho Lanzi/Elisa Ursula Lanzi IB (St. Benedict, Carrolltown, PA) There are three family trees at ancestry.com that list Daniel as the son of Henry and Elizabeth with the birth date given above. One of them also lists a son Daniel born "abt 1853" for Philip and Susanna. There is only one Daniel Gray/Kraeh listed in Ledoux. It's not impossible that Elizabeth could have had Daniel (b. 22 May 1853) in between Andrew (b. 10 Aug 1852) and Theresa (b. 12 Sep 1854), but seems unlikely as the time between Andrew's birth and Daniel's is barely 9 months. I lean more in favor of Daniel being the son of Philip and Susanna. The tree that contains two Daniels both born in 1853 says the son of Henry and Elizabeth "died very young," and the son of Philip and Susanna was married to Sarah Jones with three children listed: Fidelis, Gilbert, and Lawrence. To make matters more interesting, Brian Cartwright has Daniel A. GREY born abt. 1853, no parents listed, married to Sarah Ann Boring with nine children including Fidelis, Gilbert, and Lawrence. Her mother is Mary Ann Keith and her father unknown. Brian also has a second marriage for Mary Ann Keith to an Unknown Boring who appears to be the father of all her children except Sarah. There are two other trees that include Mary Ann Keith. One has her married to Leonard Boring (1804-1880) with Catherine (Cassie) the only child listed (although there is a note saying they had two boys and four girls) and the other has her married to Adam Boring (1804-1867) with all the children including Sarah listed. Daughters Catherine and Nancy were born in 1873 and 1875. Did Mary Ann Keith have two Boring husbands? Where was Leonard in 1870? 18 Aug 1870 Green Twp, Indiana Co, Pa reel M593_1350 page 271a house 368 family 360 Penn Run P.O. Mrs. Mary Ann Boring, a daughter of Mrs. Leah Keith, who died last fall at the age of 102 years, died at her home in Grip, shortly after midnight Monday morning. Her death was caused by cancer from which she had suffered for a year. Four hours after Mrs. Boring's death her nephew, William Keith, died in Barnesboro from injuries sustained on February 3 when a tree fell on him. Mrs. Boring was aged 75 years and had always resided near Grip. Her husband died 25 years ago. She is survived by the following children: James and Hezekiah Boring, of Green township; *Mrs. Sarah Ann Gray* and Mrs. Lewis, of Spangler; and Mrs. Cassie Lowman, of Garman's Mills. The funeral services were held on Wednesday forenoon and were conducted by Rev. Armstrong. Interment was made in the McDowell graveyard. It gets better! In 1860 Mary Ann Keith is still living at home with her mother and siblings, her surname listed as Keith, and there is no Sarah, age three, in the household. There is no Sarah Boring in Indiana or Cambria Co. There is no Sarah Jones in Indiana Co. In 1870 there is a Sarah Jones, age 11 in Croyle Twp. with seven siblings, one of whom is a younger brother named Edwin. So is Mary Ann Keith really Sarah's mother or her step-mother? Did Sarah come to live with Mary Ann through her Boring marriage(s) or through a marriage to Unknown Jones before she married Unknown/Leonard/Adam Boring? Now we both need help!
