I already found that Martha M. Cooper listing and took a chance and sent for it just last week even though I question the middle initial "M." In the 1880 census, she's listed as Mattie J. This article was from 1881 so the timing would be correct for a divorce prior to William's second marriage in 1882. I haven't received the information yet and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's her. Martha Cooper English just dropped off the face of the earth. As I said in my original query, William & Martha had a son Robert Burton English who was born in November 1880 after the census was taken. I have a copy of his social security application listing his parent's names. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I appreciate all the help I can get.
