    2. Pat, Do you want the photos in jpeg or tiff format? I was told that tiff is better for photos. Lyn In a message dated 3/14/2010 1:31:35 P.M. Since the year 1799, there have been at least 295 school houses in Butler County that have come and gone or are serving our students today. We expect to publish two books of schools - one on the northern half of the county and one on the southern half since there is so much information. We will be including a map of each township showing the location of the school houses. We are asking everyone to either donate their old school photos, scan them (see below) and send them to us on CD or DVD, or send us your photos and we will scan them then return them to you. We are also collecting reminiscences of your school days and any information you have on the old buildings. Were they torn down, burned, or renovated and now used as dwellings? If you have any questions, please contact us as bchissoc@zoominternet.net or pabutler@zoominternet.net. 2. The Butler County Historical Society is sponsoring a trip to the Antietam Battlefields and Cemetery where the Butler Regiments fought and where those who gave their all are laid to rest. Civil War expert Brad Pflugh will guide us on this tour. We will also visit the C & O Canal and Harper's Ferry. More information is available at www.butlerhistory.com. Seating is limited so get your reservation in early. 3. The Historical Society is also looking for people who are interested in joining a site committee. We have four sites which include the Lowry/Shaw House, the Heritage Center Museum, the Little Red School House, and the Cooper Cabin Homestead. Instead of just having one person responsible for everything at these sites, we are forming committees so that everyone can help in a way they enjoy without being overwhelmed and overworked! We have all kinds of things that need done so you can choose to do something alone or with a group, at a time that suits you. Please consider giving an hour or more a month to help keep Butler County's history alive. If you'd like to talk about this opportunity, please call Pat at 724-282-1736 or at 724-183-8116. **** If you are scanning your photos - Please scan at the following resolutions: 8 x 10 - 300 dpi 5 x 7 - 600 dpi 4 x 6 and smaller - 1200 dpi MAILING ADDRESS: BCHS P O Box 414 Butler, PA 16003 Thank You!!!
