I took a look at the 1870 Census record you were talking about first To get familiar with the family before I started looking for them in the other census. 1870 US Census Butler, Butler, PA JEW Thompson 33 Painter ( Actually IEW Thompson) Dora Thomspn 33 Dora 13 Chas 11 Lewis 10 Clara 9 Isaiah 7 One thing Inoticed is that it is actually I E W. It was mistakenly transcribed as J E W. IF you look at the names above his, you can see that the letter J finishes below the line. The only Isaiah Thompson or any other Thompson that fit closely was the following Thompson who also lived in Butler, Butler PA in 1860. The ages seem to be off, and the wife is listed as from Holland, rather than Hamburg. I believe this could be possibly due to someone else reporting them in the census , or some other reason. It wouldn't bethe first time I have come across these sorts of Errors. Another thing, the name of the bride and daughter are different. However, the names are both forms of Johanna. Was Dora possibly Dora Johanna or Johanna Dora? I don't know, but this was the closest match. I found no other Charles or Lewis Thompson with father names Isaiah. Anyway, it is worth a look . 1860 US Census Butler , Butler, PA Isaiah Thompson 26 carriage maker , PA Johanna 25 (Holland) Hannah 5 Charley 2 Lewis M 9/12 Felix Truxal 17 Adolphus Ruff 18 Later in the 1880 Census, Isaiah and his family were in Washington D.C. Their daughter Dora is no longer living with the family. 1880 US CEnsus Washington, Washington, District of Columbia, District of Columbia Isaiah E. W. Thompson (1832)48 lists birth as OHIO Clerk, Govt. Post office Dora Thompson(1838) 42hamburg Charles Thompson 21 Lewis 20 Clara 18 Isiah 16 John 4 I also found a record for Isaiah E.W. Thompson who died 17 May 1895, Buried in Arlington National Cemetery PVT 134 PA INF CIVIL WAR Site 9385 And wife Dora, died 3 October 1916, buried in Arlington National Cemetery (Section Old B Site 9385) In the 1900 Census, I found Dora H. Thompson living with her son John. She was a widow by then. Notice in this census, she does have a middle initial H. Thatcould be either her middle name ( maybe Hanna?) or her maiden initial. 1900 US Census Washington, Washington, DC Dora H. Thompson Jan 1841, Germany 7 born 7 living widow, year of Immigration: 1851 ( could be 1850 ) John M. Thompson Nov 1874 DC I did not find the elder Dora Thompson in the 1910 Census. Hope this helps. Again, I am not sure of the 1860 Census result, but it bears further investigation. You might also look , there was another Thompson household listed right next to Isaiah in 1860 that could be related. It was a man named Harvey D. Thompson, 28 years old, with his wife Mary(24) and son Clarence.(2) If you can connect Harvey in some way, you would know if the Isaiah in 1860 is the right guy.
