    2. Nancy, Your ancestress, Benedict and Betsy Grossman's daughter, Elizabeth "Betsey" Grossman was born about 1785, died in 1888, and was married to Robert Black. Benedict's parents, Simon, Sr., born about 1720, and Margaretha, born about 1725, were both natives of Palantine, Germany. (Simon, Sr. married twice.) They sailed on Captain Adolph de Grove's ship, Jacob, that left "from Amsterdam, last from Shields." Benedict was born, enroute to America, somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean in September 1749 . The family were to have located at Mass Creek, Adams County, Pa. near the present site of Harrisburg. (There was a Simon Grossman naturalized in Philadelphia in 1749.) If one were looking to find where they located in eastern Pa., keep in mind that county and state boundaries changed. (Part of the state of Va. became York, County, Pa.) Benedict's brother, Simon, was married in Frederick County, Md. His sister, Maria Margaretha "Peggy" was born in New Providence, Township, Montgomery County, Pa. (I'm not sure, but she may have been the one that was captured by Indians, considered a squaw, later married a Bennett and had seven sons.) His sister, Polly, was married in York County. Benedict's wife, Betsey, daughter of Johan Wendell and Catherine Seibert was born before 1750, one source has 1749 in Bethel Township, Berks County, Pa. Another source has her born in York Co., while another has Va. (The surname can be found as Sivert or Stivert.) I show all of their children born in Hamiltonban Township, York Co., Pa. Betsey was confirmed in 1766 at the age of nineteen (which would make her birth about 1747). During the French and Indian War of 1756-1763 she was captured by Indians at York, kept seven years, returned at age thirteen to friends at Ft. Pitt. Glee
