The following comes from a xerox copy of a page of a book sent to me when I first started researching the Stauffer family. The name of the book was not given, but the page number was page 185 (not much help). Ira Stauffer is my 2nd great-grandfather. "IRA STAUFFER was born about 1845 in Pennsylvania. On September 8, 1864, age 19, he enlisted. As a Private he was assigned to Battery H, 5 Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery. He was honorably discharged, a Private, on June 30, 1865 at Vienna, Virginia. On September 20, 1868, Ira Stuaffer married his second cousin Barbara A. Stauffer. She died on July 20, 1886 at Harmony, Butler County, Pa. They had enight children, and these were four of them: Samuel, date of birth was not available; Henry born in 1870; Ira Jr. born March 3, 1881; and, Birdie born March 16, 1883. Ira Stauffer Jr. and sister Birdie Stauffer were baptized on October 22, 1885 at Grace Reformed Church, Harmony, Pa. When Ira Stauffer Sr. died on July 11, 1895 at Harmony, Pa., Ira Jr. and sister Birdie were under age 16 years. In order to receive pensions as minor children of deceased Civil War veteran, Ira Stauffer Sr., guardians were appointed. On July 29, 1895, brother Samuel Stauffer was appointed guardian of Ira Stauffer Jr., and a neighbor John Kocher was appointed guardian of Birdie Stauffer. Birdie continued to live with brother Samuel Stauffer. As of April 23, 1897, Henry Stauffer, age 27 livery man, son of Ira Stauffer Sr. and Barbara, lived at!
