Could anyone give me any information on the family of Prush Double of Butler Co. Pa.? Where they lived or where their children lived? etc. This was my ggrandfather. Barbara Davis BDavis3348@aol.com
I assume you are talking about Prushey McClaine Double - born 22 March 1835 in Brady Twp., Butler Co., died in 1921. Variant forms of his given name include Prussey and Prussia. He married Elizabeth Carnahan on 14 Jan. 1858, and they had ten children. Prushey was a son of Zephania Double, who was born in Westmoreland County, PA on 11 Jan. 1804 and died 9 Sept. 1880. Prushey's mother was Elizabeth Snyder (circa 1804-1887), a first cousin of Zephania. Zephania's parents were John B. Double (born 3 March 1874, supposedly in Westmoreland Co.) and Jane Bryan (born 10 Aug. 1785). Elizabeth Snyder's parents were Conrad Snyder (1777-1866) and Ann Mary Bryan (died 1869, a sister of Jane). Lots of people have worked on this family, and you could find a lot of material on file at the Butler Area Public Library. As far as I know, no one so far has managed to identify John Double's parents, although many have searched; and no one has determined the family's origins, although there are various family legends. His parents are variously said to have come from France, Prussia (because of his grandson's name), and Maryland.
