The Beaver County (PA) Genealogical Society meeting free and open to the public on Monday, April 1 at 7 p.m. in the Jury room of the Beaver County Courthouse will feature a lecture by Elissa Scalise Powell, CGRS entitled "How did my PA Ancestor Get Here?: Migration Trails Out of the Keystone State." Everyone is welcome to the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society's Spring Seminar to be held on Saturday, April 13 at the Wyndham Pittsburgh Airport, exit 2 of Rt. 60, Montour Run Rd. Plenty of free parking and several vendors await your arrival on that day between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Our featured speaker is Rhonda McClure of Florida who has authored many books and articles about on-line genealogy including "The Complete Idiot's Guide to On-Line Genealogy" and "The Genealogist's Computer Companion." She also will be speaking about New England Research and How to get Organized both on- and off-line. An all-you-can-eat buffet will be served which includes a fresh fruit bowl, mixed garden greens with assorted toppings, Chicken Marsala, Baked Scrod with Toasted Almonds and Grapes, Tri-colored cheese tortellini with white wine shallot cream sauce, Rice Pilaf, Green Beans Almandine, fresh rolls and butter, coffee, tea, decaffeinated coffee, iced tea or milk, and a luscious assorted dessert display. The display tables will have books, archival material, CD-Roms and other genealogical materials for your shopping pleasure. Tuesday, April 16 at 7 PM at Northland Public Library, 300 Cumberland Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 the North Hills Genealogists will have “The Other Federal Census: Non-Population and Special Schedules 1810-1935.” presented by nationally known author and lecturer Sandra MacLean Clunies, Certified Genealogist. We will have the opportunity, to learn more about *the other* federal census records which may contain otherwise unknown information about our ancestors. These agricultural, manufacturing, mortality and social statistics plus a fascinating 1880 collection of Defective, Dependent and Delinquent records may provide new clues in our search for family information. This lecture is a part of the 2001 and 2002 program at the National Institute on Genealogical Research (NIGR) at the National Archives in Washington. Bringing this presentation to us is Sandra MacLean Clunies, CG, professional genealogist, author and lecturer. She has been certified by BCG since 1993, is president of the National Institute on Genealogical Research Alumni Association, vice-president of GENTECH, a director of the Genealogical Speakers Guild, and winner of the 1996 National Genealogical Society Family History Writing Contest. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 6.)
