From the Butler Eagle, August 4, 2002 by Jeffrey Andrasovsky "Two hundred years ago, Jacob and Catherine Hilliard packed up their belongings and with their nine sons left Northampton County by wagon seeking a new life in Western Pennsylvania. .....bought 300 acres. The built a log cabin and settled in for their first winter on ground that would later become the village of Hilliards. The Hilliards Bicentennial Founders Day celebration is set for Aug 10 at Harris Royle Richards Memorial Park, known as The Meadow. A parade is set of 1 p.m., with a car show from noon to 4 p.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. ......Hamburgers, hot dogs, and soft drinks will be available during the afternoon. A chicken supper will be served from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Hilliards United Methodist Church. The Hilliards Historical Center will be open, and its walls will be adorned with phnotographs of the village and the people who lived there. Visitors can also take walking tours and view historical sites, including the red brick home Jacob Hilliard built in 1810. .... Across the road, a path leads to the Hilliard family cemetery.
