When I started this line all I knew was that my gggf Samuel Hepworth had left his wife and only child (my ggf) in Batley in Yorkshire and got on a ship "to the colonies". I now have a person of the same name on a ship from Liverpool to the US, and a family on the 1870 census living in Freeport, Armstrong Co. A wonderful contact sent me me the burial entries for this family whom I cannot find on the 1880 census. She also sent me a copy of this person's naturalization papers and the signature is identical to that from Samuel's (first) marriage in Batley. I believe that this is my long lost gggf. However, some of the burial entries were from Buffalo in Butler Co. and it appears that the family moved from Freeport to Buffalo between 1863 and 1884. Most of the chidren died young, in contrast to my ggf who lived to 93. However there are several children still unaccounted for and I hope that someone on the list might recognise the name of one of their ancestors. Here they are Emily F. Hepworth b.c. 1852 in Pennsylvania (Freeport?) Laura Hepworth b.c. 1857 in Pennsylvania (Freeport?) Sarah Hepworth b.c. 1859 in Pensylvania (Freeport?) Samuel b.c. 1863 in Buffalo d. in Cabot in 1914. (He may have spent some time in the oil industry in California). I would love to hear from anyone who may be a connection or who can give me any information about this family. (I have the Hepworths back to c. 1740 in Batley and am still working on them)! 3. It would not be unusual for someone living in Freeport to be buried in Buffalo Twp, Butler County, as Freeport is only a mile or so from Buffalo Twp. There was a Nellie HEPWORTH found in the IGI at familysearch.org, married to Calvin Y. NOBLE. The 1900 census shows her birth to be in Feb 1874. Calvin Y. Noble was a first cousin once removed of my grandmother. For a map of Freeport see http://www.mapquest.com/maps/.
