You might want to contact one of the Funeral homes in Evans City about a responsible person to do the work on the stone. Our family reunion had been saving several years for a bus tour around Concord Tp. We had saved several hundred dollars because we needed more than one bus. Someone brought up that a couple family stones were leaning badly. Members voted to have the stones reset, using the money saved for a tour. It was felt we could always go on a tour, but the stones couldn't be replaced. A person was assigned to get estimates, but tombstone people didn't return the calls. Young's Funeral Home was finally contacted and a referral was received. By this time one stone had fallen over and was in two pieces. It was too late, but an estimate was given for new footers for two other large stones. The two stones were lifted, placed on boards, new footers made, and then the stones were replaced. The man that did the work said they should last another hundred years. G
G Thanks for the info. Would you happen to have the phone # of Young's. Hi everyone, When I was back in Butler County last year, I had the chance to go by the Evans City Cemetery and get pictures of my GG grandparents tombstone. When I was there I was talking to an older couple walking around. They said that several years ago a tornado swept through the cemetery. Unfortunately, my GG Grandparents stone was one of the victims of the tornado. It is still standing upright but needs some help. I was only in the area for one day and did not know who I could hire to straighten it up. Does anyone out there have a contact of who might be able to straighten it up. It is a good size pillar type stone. It is currently leaning at about a 2:00 level. I am afraid that if it continues it may tumble. Any help with a name or phone # of someone that could be hired to straighten it would be appreciated. Linda
Eleanor, I was just told by a neighbor of the cem. today that there is a crew trying to clean it out. I dislike seeing machinery in there, often marker stones are lying just under the sod or whatever ground cover there is. Ground hogs are often one of the worst enemies of old cemeteries. We will hope for the best, Paul MINIRXKING@aol.com wrote: > Thank you Paul and Ralph for your help. > Eleanor > > ==== PABUTLER Mailing List ==== > You can unsubscribe by clicking below for the regular list: > mailto:PABUTLER-L-request@rootsweb.com > Click below for the digest list: > mailto:PABUTLER-D-request@rootsweb.com > In the BODY include only one word: unsubscribe > (Please turn OFF your signature file when sending the message)
Great let me know what I can do an I am very interested. I should be done with at least one of my part time jobs very soon and will have lots more time on my hands Pat -----Original Message----- From: Pat [mailto:sweeze@zoominternet.net] Sent: Friday, March 29, 2002 6:05 PM To: PABUTLER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PABUTLER-L] Genealogical Society Ed and all interested... We could start up a genealogical society here in Butler again, but we would need some definite goals and a purpose. I think this is basically what happened to that group years ago. There are meeting rooms in the library that can be used for free for community groups like this. Or we could possibly use a room in one of the school district's buildings. I'll check around here and see if I can find the by-laws and stuff from that group which might give us some direction. Linda: In one of my e-mails earlier today or perhaps yesterday I asked you to check for Boyd's who were also in Brownsdale. I just remembered: John Brown and Elizabeth French had a daughter named Elizabeth Brown. She married George Boyd in Big Springs Church in Cumberland County. Their farm bordered the Esquire Robert Brown farm. Do you have any further information on them? I have George's children, his will, etc. I am interested in, however, his brother James Boyd who also came to Brownsdale in the very early 1800s. He was a blacksmith. It is possible that he married a woman last named TAYLOR. Do you have anything in your book on him? Hi Kim, I dont have anything listed in the Henderson Family book. But, on my family tree I do have the information on John Brown and Elizabeth French. I also list the daughter Elizabeth marrying John Boyd. But, unfortunately that is were my info ends. I would be interested in their family info that you have. Sorry, Linda > ---------- > From: K. If you come from route 8, heading west on the Brownsdale road. When you come to the store turn left and go up the hill for about one mile. At the top you will come to a "Y" in the road. On the left is a small grove of trees, that is the cemetery. Now is a good time of year to visit the cemetery, later in the summer the weeds are sooo thick and tallll that only the few large stone can be seen. I found my Great Grandfathers grave about this time last year. Good luck Ralph MINIRXKING@aol.com wrote: where is the cemetery? 3or 4 years ago my husband and I tried finding it. Hi Paul and Kim, I cousins, I have information for Sarah and Adam Brown. But, I follow the Adam Brown side back. I do not have much on Sarah other than the fact that her father was Robert. This information has been collected from various sources, not the Henderson family history I mentioned before. I have highlighed and underlined my line down. Donna Jean Brown is my grandmother. I also have pictures of Adam G and Mary Henderson, and their home there in Brownsdale. If you enlarge your window on this page it will be easier to read. Hi Paul, Thanks for the offer to take me out to the cemetery. I've been out to it several times, in fact I found John's civil war head stone. He served in the 134th PA infantry. It's sad to see how the cemetery has been allowed to fall into such bad shape. I'll be glad to share any and all info on the HAYS and WHITAKER lines. I'm always on the lookout for any leads about the lines I'm researching. When I Linda's post about Brownsdale I replyed in hopes she may have some info that may be of help to me. Ralph "Paul T. Gillman" <ptg@isrv.com> wrote: Ralph, Why don't you come up here and I will take you to the old Brownsdale Meth. Ch. Cem. We can also share some Hays-Whitaker material. The Olive Rider who is a dau/o George Rider and Mary Rumbaugh would have been more later, more like 1860. Don't know her husband, but have a note that it might be McCandless. The Olive Rider who married George Campbell fits with what I have. Thx all, Debby
