If you are speaking of Butler Co., then it would be Connoquenessing Tp. Petersburg was the village's first name. Then it was called Petersville. Some of the old timers still call it Petersville, even though it was incorporated as the borough of Connoquenessing, Pa.
What twp is/was the town of Petersburg located in? Thanks.
Perhaps you have already done this, but if you go to the Butler County 1883 history and search on Purviance, you get hits on many pages in both the 1883 and 1895 histories. http://www.rootsweb.com/~pabutler/1883/ Ed McClelland, Alexandria, Virginia. I am working on a book of Hemphill Cemetery located in Chicora. I have not found any record of an Andrew HEMPHILL. Could you give some more information? What does 1740 refer to? Date of birth, death, marriage, etc? There is also no record for him at St. John's Chicora or McCollough.
Hello: My name is Rebecca Ramsey and I'm researching my Ramsey Lineage. I'm looking for a marriage record for Daniel George Ramsey and Susannah Weiss. I believe they were married about 1799-1800, probably in a Lutheran Church Their children were later confirmed in a Lutheran church in Butler County, PA. I think this family may have lived in or near Allentown. I need to know what type of material is available. Any help you can give me is appreciated. Does anyone know the name or anyone who is buried in the cemetery on Hill Street in Evans City? People are using it as a parking lot as they attend St John's church and other functions there. Is there a cemetery association in Butler County to help preserve old cemeteries? I sure hate to see people driving on it. Lorraine
www.rootsweb.com/~pabutle2 The Land Warrant Index for surnames beginning with C, G, and H is now online.
There is a cemetery named Hemphill Cemetery in Chicora, Butler Co. If it is named for him, it may be a place to look. -----Original Message----- From: larry young <shelty48@yahoo.com> To: PABUTLER-L@rootsweb.com <PABUTLER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, April 21, 2002 12:20 AM Subject: [PABUTLER-L] Andrew HEMPHILL, PA About 1740s >Looking for anybody researching an Andrew HEMPHILL of >the 1740s. Many thanks to each of you who helped with my Rider lines. Keep me in mind if you come across any more Rider relatives. I really appreciate the contribution from each of you, and I think I have them properly placed in my database. Debby Rider Harris
Thank you Pat and Don for your responses - much appreciated. Roseline
Rosaline, I will try to answer your questions about the Portersville Bible Church. The church is a protestant church that is independent. Many churches use Bible Church in their name, and most of them are independent, in other words, are not a part of a larger organization or denomination. There are some Bible churches that are a part of a larger organization or denomination. There is a Butler County Cemetery Inventory Book available from Mechling Bookbindery online that includes the Portersville Bible Church. You can find it at http://mechlingbooks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MBO&Product_Code=7252 The address for the church is: Portersville Bible Church Route 488 Portersville, PA 16051 Phone: 724-368-3414 Go to http://webserver.health.state.pa.us/health/cwp/view.asp?a=168&Q=202275 to find information on obtaining death records for the state of Pennsylvania.
