OK, so you must be on the Butler mailing list, right? Are you also on the Mercer mailing list? Dad told me that J. W. was killed, but I thought it was in a coal mine accident. Do you have obits for him and his wife? Hi Helen, I only show a couple differences. Benedict's father was Simon and Elizabeth (Carothers) Grossman's birth may be 1780. Was Laura Dunn Smith actually Mary L. (Dunn) Smith, or was there another child of Hugh and Elizabeth that I haven't listed? Did you notice Hugh's middle name is the same as his mothers maiden name? Glee

Kathryn in Maine, Thompson Kyle of Harrisville had a son, D. J. Kyle who was admitted to practice at the Butler bar in December 1878. There was a John Kyle born in County Antrim, Ireland in 1809. He married in 1846 to Nancy, daughter of Adam Glasgow. Some time later he emigrated to America, arriving first at Toronto, Canada. He located in Springfield Township, Mercer County, Pa. and lived the rest of his life on his farm, dying in 1857. John and Nancy had six children: Robert W., Jane died in Ireland, Adam G. born in Canada, Margaret Jane, and James A. The eldest son, Robert W. Kyle was born in Port Glenoe, County Antrium, Ireland 10-2-1842. He married Mary Glasgow of Allegheny County, Pa. They lived in Middlesex Township, Butler County. Did the spelling of the name change? There are Keil and Kyle. I'm interested in how your great grandfather came to be named Thompson. Glee
Beth, There is only one: W. J. Stuebgen (Steubgen Brothers), Main Street, Saxonburg, Jefferson Township, butcher, owns 20 acres, has four children, Bell & Independent Phone. [probably one phone company for business and one for residence]. Glee
Penny, You are welcome and thank you for the new information. Glee

Well, they had 12 children, but in 1916 it would have only been 5. John Andrew Buchanan born 1907 Bertha Winifred Buchanan born 1908 Ralph Hutchison Buchanan born 1910 Margaret Evelyn Buchanan born 1912 Albert Marion Buchanan born 1915 Seven more followed after that. Bertha Winifred Buchanan McCreary Sauer was my grandmother. Her 1st mariage in 1926 was to my grandfather, Herbert Leslie McCreary. Shari, There is a J. W. Buchanan, grain and hay farmer, with five children listed at RD3 Harrisville, Mercer Township. He owned 123 acres. Codes follow the info. Looking up the codes for "H35, 4-8, I T" means Highway 35, 4-8 is the location along the highway [for some reason this book doesn't have a map, but someone has made a copy of one and will be giving it to me this week] and IT means Independent Telephone. If I forget to tell you the location, please remind me, sometimes I get busy and forget. Glee PS Don't strangle him. Just give him a little shake and tell him you love him while he's still here. You are very welcome, Shari. Being the family historian has been my hobby for over thirty years. I'm sorry I don't know more. Glee
No, it is definitely Joseph Willis Buchanan married to Edith Amanda Fisher. They are buried in the Slippery Rock Cemetery, I have a picture as of yesterday. He was a farmer and my father says he went bankrupt 3 times. BUT, he was very good with horses. In that 1916 Farm Directory for Harrisville, Mercer Twp, Butler Co. does it mention a J. W. Buchanan or a Joseph Willis Buchanan? Shari
This is probably the best Mother's Day I've ever had!!! My father just confirmed by phone that Joe living in Harrisville with 8 kids is my ggrandfather. (I may just strangle my father as I had him in Harrisville just yesterday and he never told me that Joe, Minnie and 8 kids EVER lived there!) We were looking for Buchanans (some of them married Campbells too.) I would certainly like to know more about Hugh and Susan of Armstrong Co. in 1850 as Joe and Minnie lived in Armstrong County in 1910 with 4 kids. That Slippery Rock Twp. Joe and Jane are in question as are the Wilmington Twp McCrearys.. The Mahoning Twp McCrearys are PROBABLY related to me, but none of the Neshannock McCrearys that I know of. The North Beaver Twp McCrearys COULD be related as some of them are buried with my people in Hillsville Cemetery, even though they are divided into 2 groups, some being buried on the Methodist side and the rest buried on the Baptist side, the road runs between the 2 sides. I knew you were good, but now I know you are great!!! I've been reading your messages for a couple of weeks wondering where and how you got your info so fast. Wow, and thank you!!!
