If I have it correct, John LYON m. Margaret ARMSTRONG and had issue: John LYON who m. Mary HARRIS and had issue: John LYON who m. Margaret Agnes STEWART etc. OK. The one that would concern Butler County, PA, is the middle one... John LYON m. Mary HARRIS Here is what I see: Journal of the House of Representatives of the United States, 1789-1873 MONDAY, March 14, 1842. Mr. Jack presented a petition of Mary Lyon, of the county of Butler, and State of Pennsylvania, widow of John Lyon, deceased, a commissary in the war of the Revolution, praying for a pension. +++ Journal of the House of Representatives of the United States, 1789-1873 THURSDAY, July 21, 1842. Ordered, Tthat the Committee on Revolutionary Pensions be discharged from the consideration of the petition of Mary Lyon, widow of John Lyon, and that the petition do lie upon the table. What I wish to know is 1. If anyone knows of this family, 2. Did John and Mary both die in Butler County, 3. Where are they buried? Is it the reputed Tuscaroras Presbyterian Church Cemetery? Thanks, Vince Summers

As I'm new to the list, I thought I'd post the surnames I'm researching: Purviance, Walker, Hays, Stephenson, Thompson, McKinney/Kinney, Fish, McCandless and Stright. Looking for information on the ancestry of Abram/Abraham WALKER and his wife Jane STEPHENSON who had: Margaret who married a BRUNER; Levi and Angeline who married Jennings Coulter MCCANDLESS. I believe Jane STEPHENSON had a brother named Johnston STEPHENSON. Any information on this family is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! Stephanie

I am just throwing this out to all of you in the hopes of some input. Along with doing my own family tree I have been looking into the history of the farm I live on. ON one section of the land there is the beginning of a four foot stone wall that I am told was to be built to go around the property. Can anyone think of a reason for this besides a family feud or something?? This is the old Blaine farm off of 308 Glenny www.capriella.com AOL IM glenny MSN glennycap@hotmail.com ICQ 45337016
Hey Pat, I have Mary Shanor m. William McDonald. That is all I have on her. Her mother was Susan Beighley of my direct line. Sylvia

Try the genealogy dept. at the Butler Library. They also have an online site.
Obituaries for Butler newspapers are indexed in a card file through about 1958. If Mrs. Eisler is in, she has access to an index through the 1960's. Unless you know the exact date after 1970, all you can do is go through the microfilm, day by day. The last 2000 papers that were microfilmed, started about 1810 and go into the early 1900's, these are not included in the card file index. The marriage licenses are not indexed as to when they appeared in the newspaper. You would have better luck finding a marriage license at the Government Judicial Center, in the Recorder of Wills/Marriage License Bureau, Lower Level. The Butler Public Library is located at 218 N. McKean Street in Downtown Butler.
The Butler library has a good obit file system. I believe Peg is up to the late 1970s. The Butler Sentinel was one of the earliest newspapers. You might find something early in it.
yes the butler county library. I try to get up there 1x a month but it hasn't happened for a couple months here. Pat
Is there a certain library or center where one can go to look up obituaries, marriage notices in newspapers in Butler for the late 1800s forward? Thanks, Jane
Dear Debby, I go back to William M. Boggs (1813-1876) and his wife Mary E. Lopeman through their daughter Bertha Blanche who married Richard Chase Howe. Diane
> Actually I don't....The DC that was sent to me is for the wrong Campbell....A W. H. Campbell who doesn't appear to be related based on the info on the certificate. I don't have the exact day of death...The obit in the Butler Eagle left that blank. I may try again for another cert. but thought I would try this route first. I also have found probate records before I successfully received a death certificate. You might try that. Jan
I'm interested in the town of Eau Claire, Venango Township. Is there a cemetery there.....I'm looking for the cemetery marker of W.H.H. Campbell and wife Lucinda Boozel Campbell. Hoping to find their dates....His is Dec. ?? 1908. Not a whole lot of info on him other than he apparently was an attorney, served several stints as Justice of the Peace and was "active in Democrat politics" per his very short obit. in the Butler Eagle. His 6 children included Mrs. Bert Hill of Eau Claire and Alex Campbell of Eau Claire(any descendants still in Eau Claire area?).....Also James of Bradford, Wm. of Emlenton, Mrs. Flora Shook of Sharon, Mrs. James Cottle of Marienville. Thanks, Rob
I imagine that you have his PA death certificate. That would show where he is buried. Jan
I. generation would be James Boggs of Ireland. II would be Robert Boggs, who first married Martha Crawford, daughter of John Crawford. His second wife was Mrs. Margaret (McLeod) McDonald. [Could these two wives be mixed up, or is the local history wrong?] Robert Boggs was known as Squire Boggs and he settled about 1800 in Butler County on 475 acres. He was a mill wright and a farmer He erected a log mill shortly after arriving in Butler County and, later, a saw mill. The area was known as "Boggs" for a time, but as "Boggs Mills" for a couple decades or so. He was a jack of all trades for he was, also, a tavern keeper and the first blacksmith in the area and very likely had the first residence. III. generation would be the son of Robert and his first wife. His name was Samuel Boggs and he married Jane Richardson. I don't seem to have anything on them. Many years ago I jotted down some notes on Boggs newspaper articles. They are not actual quotes! (I was working on my children's Garvin line.) Perhaps they'll be helpful.
