Looking for an Otto STUEBGEN in 1800's. Lived with Henry STUEBGEN in Saxonburg, PA. His name showed up on a Census as Henry NEIGHBOR. There was a story he is the son of a Stuebgen and a person working in the business world. Thank you for any help. Beth
Thank you for this. I checked my files and have none of these people. But they could be related to Adam's parents, Michael Wehr born 1/1827 in Germany & Sarah Hess. They also had a daughter, Eva Barbara Wehr born 1854 who married Fredrick Spithaler, a brother to Adam Wehr born 1852 wife. These are not the Wehrs you were looking for, but perhaps these couple death notices will help: "Wehr- At his home in Lancaster twp, Oct. 30, 1903, John Wehr." Butler Citizen 11-12-1903. "Weiher- At her home in Pittsburg, June 23, 1904, Mrs. Annie, widow of C. F. Weiher, formerly of Saxonburg." Butler Citizen 6-30-1904. Then there is part of an article on Gold Star Mothers. It is undated, but from the Butler Eagle, about 1976. "Twenty-five years ago two mothers, Mrs. Stewart Wehr and Mrs. Stephen Snider, who had lost sons in the service of their country, organized Butler Chapter of Gold Star Mothers. The charter was signed by ten mothers April 11, 1951 and on Sept. 26, 1951 installation of officers was held with the late Henry Buchter, Past Commander of Joseph T. Black Post 249, VFW as master of ceremonies..." It names several clergymen participating in the ceremonies and vocalist, Phillip Smith. I'm sorry the rest of the article isn't there. Then there is an obituary in the Butler Eagle, page 30, Thursday, 1-12-1967 for Stewart A. Wehr. He was 76, of Butler, died on the twelfth, was born in Prospect, a son of Elmer & Martha Stewart Wehr. His wife was Barbara Harrer. He had a sister, Mrs. Lois McLaughlin of Garden City, NY. Glee
I am trying to find which Wehr brothers owned Wehr's Meat Market which was located on Main St. Zelienople, PA. back in the 1960's. Also there was a Wehr male that drowned in the Connequesnessing Creek in Harmony Junction in Butler County that I am trying to put a first name to. Since I have Wehr's that married into my Spithaler family back in 1874 I am very much interested if the people I am looking for were from this family of Adam Wehr & Sarah Anne Spithaler. Thank you, Gloria Weiss
Carol, You may want to start by getting a copy of the death certificate. It will state on there who the undertaker was and what cemetery the deceased was interred in. It will also list his birthplace, and hopefully name his parents and where they were born. One other good piece of info contained on a death certificate in PA, is the name of the person who gave the information for it. You can print the necessary form out from the vital records site for PA. There is a link to it at: www.rootsweb.com/~pabutle2 Pat
Does anyone have any info on this PETTIGREW family? My father, Carl, was born in 1934 in Studa, Washington County, the son of George Pettigrew and Gladys Gilbert. Gladys is from Juniata County, and I have lots of info on her. Can't find info on George. He worked for the PA Railroad and moved a lot. Places that he lived were Burnham, Lewistown, Graterford, Reading. He died May 1958 in a veteran's hospital in Butler. Don't know where he was from. He & Gladys married in WV, and his parents were George Pettigrew & Mary Ferry. As a child George also attended school in Stoneboro. He was probably buried in or near Butler County. We have lived in Berks County for all of my life. Carol Angelisanti Bernville PA

You can have searches of the obit index file done if you email Mrs. Eisler at: Genealogy@butler.library-online.org
Would someone be willing to check the library's alphabetical obituary index for: Andrew Hutchison -- not sure about the death date Isabell Hutchison -- not sure about the death date Eleanor (Maeor May) Dillon -- died in the late 1950s I know this isn't much to go on, but appreciate any information anyone might find. Found this on RootsWeb's SOMEBODY'S LINKS Message Board o Rescued from a flea market, a 1950s autograph book which apparently once belonged to Mrs. L. HOPKINS, 145 Orchard Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania. Evidently Mrs. HOPKINS must have welcomed many missionaries into her home, and this apparently is an autograph book containing many signatures and comments from those missionaries. There are also a number of photos, cards and newspaper clippings in this book. I would love to see this make its way back to a family member of Mrs. HOPKINS (free). Can anyone help me with a lookup on the 1880 census for Center Township, Butler County? I am looking for any information listed for William EURY, age 19, page 128B; and Andrew HUTCHISON and other Hutchisons, pages 128B and 129B. I'm not even sure what information was contained in the 1880 census, but would be appreciative of anything that is sent my way. William EURY was my great-grandfather. He was raised by the Hutchisons, according to family lore. Thank you, Diane O'Connor Chapel Hill, NC
There is a Veteran's Administration Hospital in Butler that is still functioning as such. You could send for George's death certificate from the Office of Vital Records in New Castle, PA. You could also send for his military records. You will find a link to the Vital Records Office at: www.rootsweb.com/~pabutle2 His death certificate should give his date of birth and date of death, the cause of death, the undertaker, the cemetery where interred, his parents names and where they were from. Usually a family member gave this information and their name (signature) is included on the death certificate as well as their address. Some of this information is not always on the death certificate if the person giving the info didn't know it.
I've been told that my grandfather, George Pettigrew, died May 1958 in a veteran's hospital in Butler County. I know little else about him except that he had lived in Graterford at one time and worked for PA Railroad. Any info?
I have George Willis Sutton (1872-1957), wife and four children and families if anyone needs them. Be glad to share. Hi, all, I'm new to this list, and I'm looking for anything I can find on Susannah Hockenberry, b. 1834, d. 20 Jan. 1931 in Chicora PA. She was married around 1850 to Andrew Hindman, b. 1830, d. 1903 in Chicora PA. They are my g-g-grandparents. I have the Hindman line, but the Hockenberry line has me blocked. Thanks for your time. -- Dave "Tam multi libri, tam breve tempus!" (Et brevis pecunia.) [Et breve spatium.]
