    3. Thanks to those who responded to my query. I think at this point, I will take these exchanges off the list, but please feel free to respond to the list if you have any knowledge of William Anderson, son of James Henry Anderson and Sarah Elizabeth O'Conner Anderson. 1. [PABUTLER-L] Argentine~Young & Anderson
    2. Hi, Don't know much about the mines except what little relatives told me. The surnames Young and Anderson are known in Argentine. I lived with my GM Leonard in Argentine and went to school there for a number of years. Frank Young and family lived across the field from us. There may have been an Amanda and Nora Young. Ernie and Elsie Anderson lived in the central part of Argentine with their daughters Val Jean and Dana. Can't recall if the Andersons had other children. I'd really have to jog my memory regarding any other names as it has been at least 55 years since I resided there. Barbara

    3. Beverly, I am checking the 1909 History of Butler County on this mining question. Could you send surnames that I should be looking for. The only index in this book is by surname. I did find the following though: page 33, 20th Century History of Butler and Butler County, PA and Representative Citizens. Edited and Compiled by James A McKee, Butler, PA. 1909 The Lochrie Brothers Coal Company at Argentine employed eighty men in their Pennsylvania Mine No. 1 and had an output of 59,000 tons. This company is operating in Washington and Venango Townships. The Standard Coal Mining Company at Argentine employed eighty-nine men and had an output of 57,000 tons. The Nellie Coal Company employed seventy-eight men at their Nellie Mine in the same district, and had an output of 49,000. The Mutual Coal Mining Company employed seventy-one men at the Royal Mine, in the Argentine district, and had an output of 43,768 tons. There may be a book in the library on mining, you should email Luanne and ask her about that. Pat "Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.raogk.org/"

    3. Thanks, Pat, for the post regarding the Hilliards Bicentennial. How about Argentine? Do you know of anything that has been written regarding its settlement, early families and the like? Also, has anything been written about the mines that operated in that general area in the early 1900's? Beverly -- mailto:kngsldy@cableone.net Families are Forever!

    1. [PABUTLER-L] UPDATES
    2. Pat
    3. Just a quick update on the status of the renovations to the Butler Public Library. To date, after only 10 months of fund-raising, a total of 2 million, 300 thousand dollars has been raised. The community only needs to donate another $350,000 and those funds will be matched to reach the total 3 million needed for completion of the renovations. Work commenced in April and things are getting pretty torn up at this point. Access is not impaired to the library though and the genealogy department is still intact. New furniture for the genealogy department is due in by the end of August and then it sounds like the genealogy department will move into its new area. The birth records project is moving along with about half of the records completed and lots of proofreading still to be completed. We will be putting thte first part of those records online by the end of August. "Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.raogk.org/"
