    1. [PABUTLER-L] NEW PROJECT
    2. Pat
    3. I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving this year. We certainly have much to be thankful for as we wind up this year and head towards a new one. One thing I am especially thankful for are all the researchers and volunteers that we have on this Butler Mail list. This is, without a doubt, the best list I belong to. Our volunteer base continues to grow and people are so helpful and sharing. I hope that this group continues on into the next year as strong and involved as we've been in the past! NEW PROJECT: Several years ago, Ed McClelland suggested to me that we try to start up a township research project. This would involve one volunteer taking charge of a township. This person would be responsible for accepting 'donations' of information specific to their particular township. At this time, I am looking for volunteers who would like to be the 'Overseer' of records for a township. If you are interested in learning more about this, please contact me at sweeze@zoominternet.net . I will email you the particulars of your duties. This is not going to be a hard job and should not be time consuming. Thanks, Pat www.rootsweb.com/~pabutle2

    1. [PABUTLER-L] Andersonville Civil War POW site
    2. Kevin Frye
    3. Hello veterans and newbies of the RootsWeb. I have received permission from the listowner to make this offer. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are more than 41718 prisoners on record from the Union, ( 5056 from Pennsylvania )and quite a few who were held prisoner here as Union regiments from Confederate states. There are also nearly 13000 marked graves of those who died here. I thought I would send my offer as these would lead to a great many descendants who might be looking for them.. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 41718 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I also have the continued update database which is dated October 01 2002 . . I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking . Please email me directly at Frye@gnat.net If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. 3. The index of Surnames for the letter B, Delayed Birth Records are now online at www.rootsweb.com/~pabutle2 Recently I"ve had the opportunity to copy about 3 dozen of these records for requests and have been surprised at the time period that these records cover. The earliest one I have copied was in 1872 and the latest was about 1902. The Birth Records project is moving along nicely. We have about 1/4 of the records proofread and hope to be getting them online very soon. Thanks to all for your help with this. Pat

    1. [PABUTLER-L] North McKean Street Cemetery
    2. Pat
    3. The North McKean Street Cemetery is the original Butler City Cemetery that was moved to the North Cemetery to make room for a new High School in the early 1900's. Recently a marker was finally put in place to honor those whose remains were moved there and left unmarked. Last night the list of names that Simeon Nixon compiled in 1894 of the readings of the headstones that were in existence in 1894 was added to our Cemetery List. This includes 113 names and any other information he included on the people, as well as a separate list of 16 people, which was in a list compiled in 1935. The 1935 list contained 70 names, which were all included in Nixon's list, except for the 16 noted above. We have also included two pictures of the new marker for those interested. Go to www.rootsweb.com/~pabutle2, click on Cemeteries in the left hand column, then pick the M-R button. Scroll down to North McKean Street Cemetery and click on that. The written material you find there was written by Simeon Nixon and precedes the list that he made in 1894. If you have any questions, please email me at sweeze@zoominternet.net. Thanks to Helen and Scott Beveridge for getting this on the site and working. Enjoy! Pat "Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.raogk.org/"

    3. The delayed birth certificates are NOT available through the Vital Records Office of PA, they are held in the County Courthouse where the information was filed. There is a link on the page where our index is, to my email, for copies. Pat "Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.raogk.org/"

    2. Lady Bonita
    3. I thought she was asking how to get a copy of one of the 'delayed birth certificates' listed in Pat's file. You should be able to contact vital records and just make sure to tell them it is a Delayed Birth Certificate, as it is filed under the date the originial delay certificate was proved/provided and not the actual date of the event.
