Christi, I live in Calif. The Butler Area Public Library has been very good to me through the years. They usually only charge a couple of dollars, so go for it! The obituary for Mrs. Robert (Margaret Campbell) Glenn can be found on microfilm at the Butler Area Public Library. I failed to write the name of the newspaper down, but it is likely the Butler Eagle. The issue is 9-3-1921.
Sorry, don't have a Robert and Margaret Glenn. There are Robert and Martha (Borland) Glenn. This Robert is the son of James Glenn, immigrant from Ireland and his second wife, Mary Borland. Their youngest son, Andrew, married first, Ann Aiken, daughter of Robert Aiken (or Eakin) of Lawrence County. He married second, Mary Maxwell. He was the father of nine children to his first wife and, at least, one to his second wife. Toots (Glenn) Hoffman wrote a short story on this line before her death. It was published in a 1992 issue of The Post-General and titled, The Family: It Lives In You, Through You. Glee

Yes Portersville is in Butler County. There is 2 Presbyterian churches there. There is one up on the hill on Rt 19 and then one just off of 488 (Mountville Presbyterian Church) which would be Muddy Creek Township. Pat Is Portersville in Butler, Co.? I have continuously come up with dead ends in researching my ancestors from Western PA and am hoping to locate a Presbyterian church they might have gone to in Portersville where they were from. I don't know which one they may have gone to, just that if they went it was to a Presbyterian one. Hopefully whatever one it was they kept some records. The time frame I'm looking for is mid- to late-1800s.
Many thanks to all those who helped me out. I didn't list the family because I wanted to be sure first that Portersville was indeed in Butler Co. Part of my family from the Portersville area was the Robert Glenn/Margaret Campbell line (they lived in Muddycreek...she died at 90 and he at 94). But I have quite a bit of info on them. The line I'm particularly interested in is my Smith/Aiken one, since they've been terribly elusive. Here's what I know: Mary R. Aiken (1836/38-1 Sep 1885) married Abijah Smith, who died around 1866. They had two known children, James Alexander Smith (1864-3 Oct 1924), and Emma/Mary E. Smith (b. 1866); and one possible one, Susan B. (b. 1858). Mary R. was born in PA. In 1877, she married John Wright and had one more child, Terzah Eldora Wright (1878-1940). When Mary died, she was buried in Mountainville Cemetery, Portersville. In the 1870 Census, Mary and her children were living in Perry Twp, Lawrence Co., with James and Isabell Aiken. If anyone knows of the family or can tell me where I could look, I would greatly appreciate it. Just to clarify this project a little, you do NOT need to live here in Butler County to be an Overseer of a Township. "Volunteer of Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness at http://www.raogk.org/"
We have found a temporary meeting place to get this Genealogical Society organized and would like to have a rough idea of how many people from this list would be interested in attending? We are going to try to have the first meeting sometime between Jan 6 and 16 if possible. This first meeting and possibly a few more will be in Meridian. We will post more details when they become available. Please mail your response to this to EMonnie@aol.com Thanks! Pat
This is wonderful. A question, did Butler keep any birth records prior to 1893? Or would that be church records only?
