This is a wonderful site. Do except photos from any one? I am of the Duffy Family of Clearfield, Butler, Pa. I have a couple of photo from back in the 1800's I would like to contribute Mary Lou Duffey Neumann
There is an Ekastown in the Southeast section of Butler County. It is named for the Ekas family. I'll look for information as I think I have something in conjunction with some other research I did. It isn't my family, but if I find anything, I'll send it along. -----Original Message----- From: Ed McClelland <ed.mcclelland@erols.com> To: PABUTLER-L@rootsweb.com <PABUTLER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, February 06, 2003 7:38 AM Subject: [PABUTLER-L] EKAS >I have an EKAS ancestor, but all I know is the following: > >David Eli Gibson Born 10/-/1852 in Buffalo Twp, Butler Co, PA. I am interested in this church too. Ananias Dunbar is buried there but I have no further information on his association with this church. Did not find any with that spelling, however, using soundex .... I found this in Clearfield Township, page 177. There is a Geo Deere - age 64, spouse - Catherine age 65, along with what appears to be a Henry age 21 son and his wife, Christiana - age 21, followed by another Henry - age 3. Also in the household are a Phillip and William Williand, both shown as laborers. If this is your guy, let me know, and I will send you an image of the census page that they are on. Hi Bonita Have numerous BEIGHLEYs (about 70 or so with various descendants) in my genealogy, principally those of George BEIGHLEY and Jane DUNN, on my web site at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~albert/index.html. Also have his brother John and sister Mary, but only to the extent of their marriages. The main connections are back to my Albert line, by way of John Conrad BEIGHLEY and Mary Catherine ALBERT, his spouse. Indirectly there are a couple of secondary connection by way of Jane Dunn's sister Nancy, who married my g-g-granduncle, Adam Albert; and by way of her brother Thomas L Dunn, who married Mary S Albert (Adam's sister). You might want to take a look at them, and then contact me if any of these folks look like connections for you. Jdbgmgr.exe Hoax (AKA Teddy Bear Virus) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ First Published April, 2002 Updated November, 2002 / January, 2003 In December, the false warning for jdbgmgr was rewritten and some of the versions have been calling jdbgmgr.exe the Teddy Bear Virus. The warning says jdbgmgr.exe is a virus and urges users to delete this file. As it turns out, this is a legitimate Windows program. It does have a teddy bear icon, but this is normal for this program. There is a real virus called BugBear, but it is unrelated to this file. Bugbear does not display any bear icons and someone may have made a connection between the word bear in Bugbear and the icon for the jdbgmgr.exe file. But no connection exists. This "warning" is trying to scare you into deleting a file which is found in virtually all Windows OS versions. It is used to debug Java programs, but is definitely not a virus and can do no harm to your computer. There are several viruses that can target this file and infect it with a virus. However, the teddy bear icon does not mean this file is infected. All the updated anti-virus software programs will detect the presence of a virus in this file. Scan your system if you want to ease your mind, but don't delete any file just because of a warning received in an e-mail. It is not necessary or desirable to delete this program. Just delete the e-mail scare letter instead. If it is too late and you did delete it you can get it back by reinstalling the latest version of Internet Explorer. However, please note this message from Microsoft technicians: "The Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java (Jdbgmgr.exe) is only used by Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1 developers. If you follow the e-mail message instructions and delete this file, you do not have to recover it unless you use Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1 to develop Java programs on Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 98, or Windows 95. For Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 98, and Windows 95: Reinstall Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)." Thanks, YOU MUST DO THIS - 1. Go to start (bottom left corner), find the search option (or "find"). 2. In the files / folders option, write the name jdbgmgr.exe 3. Be sure to search your C: drive and any other drives you may have. 4. Click "find now" 5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT. 6. Go to edit : choose "select all" to highlight the file without opening it. 7. Now go to file and select "delete". It will go to your recycle bin. 8. Go to your recycle bin and delete it there as well. IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS. SORRY ABOUT THIS. My grandparents, Mary 'Rachel' Reynolds and Melvin W. Riddle met while she was a teacher at a one room school house near Harrisville and he was the superintendent of schools in that area. They were married in 1919. Does anyone know the name of this school and possibly a picture. My grandmother used to tell stories about having to get to the school so early to start the stove for heat, and how the boys were so 'bad' that my grandfather used to show up at different times of the day as a surprise to keep them in order. Thanks, Lynn
I have Agnes Matilda Huselton born in PA on 11/12/1859, married to Sidney George Goehring on 3/5/1880, died 10/19/1955 in Butler, PA. Looking for any information on Margaret Gile (or possibly Gill or Galo) who is believed to have been a foster daugther of Robert Aiken and his wife Elizabeth. Margaret was born 15 May 1826 in Harrisville, according to her 1909 death certificate (Illinois). A story in our family states that Margaret's parent(s) was/were killed in a forest or prairie fire and that a very religious Presbyterian man (possibly a minister) named Aiken raised Margaret and her siblings. In the 1850 census for Connoquennessing Twp., there is a Margaret Gile living with Robert Aiken and his wife. By 1857, Margaret had married Samuel McCracken, possibly in Butler Co. (By the way, Samuel's brother Robert McCracken was a Presbyterian minister in nearby Lawrence Co., and he may have performed ceremonies in Butler Co.) In 1859, Robert Aiken died and willed most of his estate to foster daughter Margaret McCracken. He also donated his collection of religious books to a Presbyterian church in Butler Co. In 1860, his widow, Elizabeth Aiken, was living with Samuel and Margaret McCracken, and she migrated with them to Iroquois Co., Illinois in 1863. A biography in Iroquois Co., Illinois of Margaret's husband, Samuel McCracken, states that her maiden name was Galo. I also find similar surnames in Butler Co. like Gill and McGill. Does anyone have info on Margaret (Gile?) McCracken or her foster family, the Aikens? I'd like to establish who Margaret's birth parents were and any siblings. Thanks, Norm Alder
