    1. [PABUTLER-L] Wohpert/Dittmer
    2. Pat
    3. Bonnie I believe there is a family history on these Wohlperts in the Butler Library. The name ended up Anglecized as Wilbert. Many of them are also in the Collins Family History. Joseph Wohlpert (1840-1890) was the son of Barnhart (Bernard) Wohlpert. Martin Wohlpert (1838/9-1922) was his brother. Joseph Wohlpert born 1840, died 1890, changed his name to Dittmer. He married Eva Appalonia MIchel (1843-1909) Their son, Joseph J. Dittmer 1870-1952 married Maria Wolpert (1878-1979). Joseph born in 1870, is one month old when the census was taken 11 June of that year. You could send to New Castle for death certificates on all who died after 1906. The death certificate information includes the place of interment. These folks also may show up in the Butler County Cemetery inventories that are at the library. Pat

    1. [PABUTLER-L] Mt. Chestnut/Prospect Presbyterian Churches and Robert Aiken (or Ekin)
    2. Looking for any information on the family of Robert Aiken and wife Elizabeth. They lived many years in Connoquennessing Twp. Was Robert Aiken a minister at either Mt. Chestnut or Prospect church? In his July 1859 will, Robert Aken bequeathed "to my relatives my library, also fifty dollars for the establishment of a library in the Mount Chestnut and Prospect churches. The residue of my estate I give to James A. Clark and William Dick for the benefit of the young men's fund, for the ministry of the United Presbyterian Church..." After Robert Aiken died in April 1860, an appraisement of his estate includes a large collection of religious books listed by title. I wonder if these books were given to either of the abovementioned churches. Do either the Mt. Chestnut or Prospect churches have old records or a recorded history dating back to the early to mid 1800's? I'd like to find an 1857 marriage record for Robert Aiken's foster daughter, Margaret Gile, who married Samuel McCracken. A story passed down in our family states that Mr. Aiken and his wife had raised Margaret after a terrible prairie or forest fire killed her mother (and possibly also her father??). I do not know the names of Margaret's birth parents or where the tragedy occured. It may have happened in Butler Co. Also, Margaret's maiden name "Gile" is not definite, as I have seen it spelled "Galo" also. There are other surnames from Butler Co. that look or sound similar also, like "Gill". On Margaret's 1909 death certificate, it states she was born in Harrisville, PA on 15 May 1826. I did not find others named Gile living around Harrisville in the 1830 census. Any help in finding info on the family of Robert Aiken (or Ekin, Aken, etc.) and/or his foster daughter Margaret would be very appreciated. Norm Alder

    3. Bonnie, You don't need to know the burial place to get their death certificates. It should be written on the certificate and then you'll know. It looks like David on the Allegheny Co., PA, list is doing some census work for you, so that should help with some places they may have died. If most of them were in Allegheny Co., I would write that. The death certificates are only $3. It's not refundable if there is no record, but a good bargain for the info you get. I have guessed a couple of times with the place they died and for the most part have been lucky. You have the dates and that seems to be the most importtant thing they want. They will do a 10 year search, but that gets a little pricey and I personally haven't had luck with that. Another thing you could do is write Carnegie Library for your people listed in the Pittsburgh city directory or maybe someone can do a look-up. Some people have these city directories on CDs. If you want to reply to me, maybe it's best to do it on the Allegheny County list. 2. Ed Albert
    3. If you send me someone to look up ... please provide a county name. Most of the census data is only indexed by head of household, so if looking for a member of that household, there is some way to reduce the population to search through. It's especially challenging for the later censuses as the population is so much larger. For those persons who simply don't have any way to know of a county ... it will just take longer, and I will likely put your request off until I have done the simpler ones (single requests with county information) completed.
