There have been a lot of postings on the BROWN family recently. I do not think that my Butler Brown family was connected to the Middlesex group, but if anyone else is researching Brown from around Clay Township, I'd love to exchange info. My g-grandmother was Mary (Catherine or Katherine) Brown. She married William J. Eury, probably in the 1890s. Her parents were Robert A. Brown and Mary (Baker) Brown. On the 1880 census, they are listed in Clay Township, occupation farmer, with the followoing children: Robert A Brown, 45 Mary Brown, 39 Josiah J., 21 Harrison A., 19 Sarah J., 18 Robert F., 17 Mary K., 15 James E., 14 Maria E., 10 Jacob P., 8 Ada M., 6 Warren A., 3 Rose E., 1 With that many kids, I am hoping there is someone else out there with some information on the line! McCall. At the time I found it, I did not realize the importance of writing down exactly WHERE I found it. The story talks about Samuel McCall being one of the early settlers, how William may have been a land speculator and that he had two wives (Jane Wasson and Jane Brannon Currie-various spellings. His second wife was younger than some of his children from his first marriage and caused family problems. One son John moved to Ohio. That's a synopsis. The following comes from a xerox copy of a page of a book sent to me when I first started researching the Stauffer family. The name of the book was not given, but the page number was page 185 (not much help). Ira Stauffer is my 2nd great-grandfather. "IRA STAUFFER was born about 1845 in Pennsylvania. On September 8, 1864, age 19, he enlisted. As a Private he was assigned to Battery H, 5 Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery. He was honorably discharged, a Private, on June 30, 1865 at Vienna, Virginia. On September 20, 1868, Ira Stuaffer married his second cousin Barbara A. Stauffer. She died on July 20, 1886 at Harmony, Butler County, Pa. They had enight children, and these were four of them: Samuel, date of birth was not available; Henry born in 1870; Ira Jr. born March 3, 1881; and, Birdie born March 16, 1883. Ira Stauffer Jr. and sister Birdie Stauffer were baptized on October 22, 1885 at Grace Reformed Church, Harmony, Pa. When Ira Stauffer Sr. died on July 11, 1895 at Harmony, Pa., Ira Jr. and sister Birdie were under age 16 years. In order to receive pensions as minor children of deceased Civil War veteran, Ira Stauffer Sr., guardians were appointed. On July 29, 1895, brother Samuel Stauffer was appointed guardian of Ira Stauffer Jr., and a neighbor John Kocher was appointed guardian of Birdie Stauffer. Birdie continued to live with brother Samuel Stauffer. As of April 23, 1897, Henry Stauffer, age 27 livery man, son of Ira Stauffer Sr. and Barbara, lived at! Harmony, Pa., one mile north of the Post Office. As of February 27, 1897, a first cousin of Barbara A. Stauffer (wife of Ira Sr., who died on July 20, 1886), Elias Boyer age 54, farmer, lived at Harmony, PA. Ira Stauffer Sr. married a second time. On June 19, 1887 at Harmony, Pa., he married Mrs. Jennie (Brown) McBride. Jennie Brown was born on April 14, 1849 in Portersville, Butler County, Pa., daughter of Joseph and Nancy (White) Brown. Jennie Brown had a sister, Syrenia Jane Brown who was born on July 21, 1853 in Portersville, Butler County, Pa. Joseph Brown, father of Jennie and Syrenia, died when Jennie was 4 years old. In 1860 and 1870, Jennie Brown lived with her widowed grandmother Jennie White (Mrs. Robert White) in Perry Township, Lawrence County, Pa. Jennie Brown married John McBride on May 6, 1869, and was still married to him when she married Ira Stauffer. On March 29, 1888, she was granted a divorce from John McBride. She claimed that he had abandoned her. Rumors at the time of the divorce were that John McBride then was in a penitentiary. On the divorce papers, her name and "by her next friend Ira Stauffer" versus "John McBride" were recorded. In 1897, ! Jennie Stauffer wrote that she knew she had married Ira Stauffer before she obtained a divorce from her previous husband John McBride, because she "needed a home". As of 1890, he age 45, Ira and Jennie Stauffer lived at Harmony, Pa. On July 11, 1895, Ira Stauffer Sr. died at Harmony, Pa. He was buried on Sunday, 14 1895 at Harmony, Pa., by undertaker Henry D. Ziegler. As of June 23, 1897, Sallie Stauffer age 77, mother of Ira, lived at Harmony, Pa. As of March 27, 1902, Ira Stauffer's daughter Birdie was Mrs. A. R. Kocher, Harmony, Pa. As of November 8, 1928, Ira's widow Jennie Stauffer, age 78, lived at 413 Highland Avenue, New Castle, Lawrence County, Pa. As of June 8, 1938, widow Jennie Stauffer changed her address from 509 Moody Avenue to 301 Boyles Avenue, New Castle, Pa. Jennie Stauffer died on November 12, 1940 at New Castle, Pa.
