    1. [PABUTLER] Benedict Grossman Revolutionary Military Service
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: kleback Surnames: Grossman, Grosmon, Groseman, Seybert, Seibert Classification: military Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.butler/9120/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I know that there are many Butler County researchers working on Butler Countian Benedict Grossman and his descendants, and I wanted to share my big find in the Maryland Room at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore on Saturday. I had found an obscure note in a periodical listing Benedict Grossman on a 1777 tax list in the Sugar Loaf Hundred of Montgomery County, MD, a few years ago and wasn't able to pursue it while I lived in Florida. I live in Maryland now and have access to many more resources. When I looked in the book REVOLUTIONARY PATRIOTS OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND 1776-1783 by Henry C. Peden, Jr. I found the following: GROSEMAN (GROSMON), Benedick (Benedict). "Benedick Groseman" was a private, 2nd Co., Middle Bn., Militia, Sep. 4, 1777 [Ref.: M-196, T-5:37]. : "Benedict Grosmon" lived in Sugar Loaf Hd. (one taxable) in 1777. [Ref. R-31: 10]. I then checked the first reference referred to, THE MARYLAND MILITIA IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR by S. Eugene Clements and F. Edward Wright and found a muster roll for the Montgomery County Middle Battalion. Bennedick Groseman served in 2nd Co. with a Henry Seybert and Geo. Seybert. Since his wife's maiden name was Seibert, this looks very promising! I'll be doing much more work on this. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
