The question is - was Sarah a widow when she married Robert (a widower) in 1868 and if so was her late husband named John BLACK? There is a Thomas BLACK living with Robert and Sarah listed as Stepson. Sarah did have a son by that name and age. I would appreciate any information. My husband passed away in Jan. I have no records of any Hazletts in Mercer county. All the records I have put the Hazletts in Allegheny Butler Westmoreland and Washington Co. I am still trying to find the parents of my great grandfather Thomas. His obit lists his Mother and Iva McCormish and his father and his father as Thomas . Another researcher found info that led him to thinking William was Thomas father. I don`t think I will ever get it straight. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: referener Surnames: LARDIN Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.butler/340.387.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: John Wesley and Elizabeth LARDIN appear in the 1860 census of Clinton Twp, Butler Co, PA, with no children (they were probably recently married). They appear in Ophir, LaSalle Co, IL in 1870. The oldest children, Albert, Charles, Emma and Ina Belle, are listed in the census as being born in PA, so I would conjecture they moved to Ophir sometime between 1868 and 1870. I believe John Wesley LARDIN may have served in the Civil War, though I haven't checked the records. In the 1870 census of Ophir, LaSalle Co, IL, Daniel LARDIN (1849-1933), John Wesley's youngest brother, also shows up in the household as a farm laborer. Daniel later moved back to Pennsylvania, where he worked as an oilman. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: referener Surnames: LARDIN Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.butler/340.387.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I believe Ina Belle LARDIN was the daughter of John Wesley LARDIN, who was born 6 Dec 1833 in Lardintown, Butler Co, PA, and died 7 Mar 1883 in LaSalle Co, IL. John Wesley LARDIN's parents were William LARDIN (b. 1808, d. 1896) and Elizabeth MILLER (b. abt 1805, d. 1859). William LARDIN was the son of Thomas LARDIN (b. 1765, d. 1833), an immigrant from northern Ireland, and Christiana HARSH (b. 1774, Philadelphia, PA). Thomas Lardin appears in Butler County history books as an early settler of southern Butler County (Buffalo Township). There's still a Lardintown Road which runs through the area he settled. One of Thomas's sons (Daniel) built a mill at Lardintown, which was the first mill in the area. William LARDIN's wife Elizabeth MILLER was first married to a man named BARR and had a daughter Irene BARR, who married Miller McCALL. William and Elizabeth's children were: Christiana (1833-1880), married Philip Sheridan EKAS (1830-1864); John Wesley (1833-1883), m. Elizabeth (b. 1839); Margaret J. (1836-1925), m. William MITCHELL (1836-1901)-my ancestors-; William Miller (1840-after 1889), m. Martha Ann MILLER (b.1843); Thomas P. (1842-after 1910), m. Sarah E. (b. 1843, Ohio); Mary E. (1846-1916), m. Harry A. MOORHEAD (1850-1912); and Daniel (1849-1933) m. Agnes H. PETERS (1860-1948). The LARDINS were early Methodists and were active in the establishment of Methodism in southern Butler County. A lot of the LARDINS were involved in the earlly oil industry in western Pennsylvania as oil drillers, etc. I hope that helps you.
