You should check for their marriage license which would give her maiden name. There is a Catherine Manny in the obits in 1953, could this be Carl's wife? The obit may name her parents. There are still ZANG family members living in Butler County today. Since she is listed as a Zang in his obit she was most likely a Zang. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. Thank you Pat! Yes, I believe that is Carl's wife. She has been added to my long list of obits to obtain. Carl's step-mother (who raised him is Ethel Mae OSMAN, my grandaunt. OSMAN is the No. 1 surname I'm researching and I've been adding as many cocnnetions as I can find. Carl's mother is Lydia CAMBELL (c1880-1904); father Christian (Chris/Christ J,). MANNY (1878-1938). And I agree that Catherine's maiden surname is ZANG. Thanks Pat, for your feed-back. I think that the surname is ZANG. In the 1910 census she has a brother named Earl. I found him in the Social Security Death Index: Earl ZANG Born: 29 Mar 1909 (year agrees with 1910 record) Died: May 1986 Last Residence: Butler, Butler Co., PA Interesting is, that the Butler Area Public Library Obituary Index does not show any ZANGs. Again thanks, Bev ----- Original Message ----- From: "Debby Harris" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, June 08, 2007 1:48 PM Subject: Re: [PABUTLER] ZANG, Charles, born about 1870 > Given the cursive L and the printed Z, my guess would be Lang. Going backwards, as best as I can determine, the GARVIN males in my family are: James Keeling Garvin b. 1882 grandfather m. Estelle Spring 1902 James Richard b. 10/19/1848 g-g-gfather m. Mary Musselman Known children to Mary: David, James Keeling Died: 6/27/1910 perhaps buried in Plains UP Church Cemetery? Served in Civil War 2-E, 78-I. Was married twice; seeking info on first wife, Mary and/or info on 2nd wife. There is also a daughter, Nina, but not sure if she is to first or second wife. William b.ca. 1826 g-g-g-gfather m. Mary Anne Keeling (b.England). Children: James Richard, John W., Isabella, Albert. Find him and family in 1860 census, Jackson Twp. James W. Garvin (b.ca.1796?) g-g-g-g-gfather. Find a Jas. W. married to Isabella in 1860 census. Suspect she is 2nd wife and Nancy may have been first and mother of William (above). 1870 census shows a Jas. W. age 74 b. VA & Isabella in Cranberry Twp. Also have info sent to me from a kind soul (Paula G./Portersville PA) that kind of leads me to some of my conclusions so far. Am especially interested if James might possibly be the son of early settler, Benjamin who came from Rockingham VA in early 1800's with wife and ten children, one of whom was named James. I'm finding just enough in Cranberry & Butler Co. history and some info from Plains Cemetery records to be tantalizing but not to make the connections. Hope to be in beautiful Butler County this fall to do some research on my own. Pat Harris Boise _________________________________________________________________ Make every IM count. Given the cursive L and the printed Z, my guess would be Lang. Just a guess, of course, unless there are other Zang names in Butler county at the time. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beverly M." <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, June 08, 2007 4:38 PM Subject: [PABUTLER] ZANG, Charles, born about 1870 > Hello.... > > I have an obituary for Carl Raymond MANNY (1899-1952). Hello.... I have an obituary for Carl Raymond MANNY (1899-1952). He was born and died in Butler, Butler Co., PA. In the obit, it states his wife was Catherine ZANG. I think her father is Charles ZANG, born about 1870, PA. He and his wife Catherine lived in Summit Twp., Butler Co., PA. Their children listed in the census: Catherine C.; Irene G.; Alvin N.; Earl M. Some of the census records list the surname as LANG and SANG. I would like to know if the surname is correct as ZANG. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Hi all- I'm trying to research my FIL's great grandfather, and he said in an interview that he was born on a farm in Butler, PA in 1847 to Irish immigrants, James and Anna Lavelle. I haven't been able to track this family at all and I'm curious if anyone knows of a Lavelle family that would have immigrated to the States before 1847? My FIL's great grandfather was W.A Lavelle, an actor, circus performer and supposed Civil War veteran. :) I'm just trying to figure out what is true about him and what isn't- Thanks! Greetings!! Jack Cohen, the Executive Director of Butler County Tourism, has been approached by a movie director. They are searching for a rural church in the Butler County area. Their specifications included a steeple, a modest grave yard, and a rural setting. The film company is attempting to find a place with little to no modern homes in the immediate vacinity, as the time period for the plot is set in the 1970s. Please contact Mr. Cohen at the tourism office on Grandview Ave. in Zelienople, or contact him through the Butler County Tourism website if such a place comes to mind. The Butler Co. Tourism website is: http://www.visitbutlercounty.com and his contact information should be listed there as well. Thanks for all of your help!

Dear List Members: My name is Julian H. Preisler and I reside in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia near Washington, DC. I am searching for a person who can take a color photograph of the exterior of Temple B'nai Abraham located at 519 North Main Street in Butler. I am researching American Synagogue Architecture and am in the process of creating an e-Book on the subject. Photo credit will be given to the photographer both in the research project and upon publication. If anyone can do this for me or knows of someone who is willing to assist, please do get in touch with me. Photographs can be digital (preferred), but I can also accept regular print photographs and can scan them into the database. I have photographs of a great many of the Jewish temples and synagogues in Pennsylvania and would also like to include the one in Butler. Thank you in advance for your help and look forward to hearing from any of you. If you have any questions, please let me know. Sincerely, Mr. Julian H.
