    3. I stayed at the Copper Penny in Renfrew just last week. Wonderful B&B - "just like home", good food, friendly hosts, beautiful house. It is close to all of the places that you mentioned - only 20 - 30 minutes away from most. Lou Eisler, genealogist at the Butler County Library, is a bundle of energy and very knowledgeable about the library's great genealogy collection. The library in Beaver Falls also has a great genealogy section (the genealogy room is probably the only room in the building with air conditioning!) Both libraries have many records and early newspapers on microfilm. - Pattie ----- Original Message ----- From: Mickey M<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, July 03, 2007 12:28 AM Subject: [PABUTLER] Visiting We will be in Pennsylvania from June 24th to the 30th and I am curious as to where a good place is to stay centrally located to Butler, Zelienople, Slippery Rock and maybe Beaver Falls. 3. Hi Marie, I just got back from Butler County. I had also wanted some records from the Prothonotary Office. The woman there was very helpful - but the older records, if they still exist, are located in a "storage mine" in a town north of Butler. She had written down my information and said she would try to have them sent down to their office. I never got a return call - the records may not exist anymore, but the indexes to them can give some clues and the indexes are at the courthouse. The Senator Heinz Pittsburgh Regional Research Center in Pittsburgh actually has some of the ORIGINAL documents from Butler County Court records in their collection. http://library.pghhistory.org/<http://library.pghhistory.org/> They won't make copies of items that are too fragile or brittle - and many of those documents are - I was surprised that they let me handle them. Some of their materials can be viewed online at http://digital.library.pitt.edu/pittsburgh<http://digital.library.pitt.edu/pittsburgh> What names are you researching in Butler County? Pennsylvania County Atlases & Landowner Maps 1865-1914 at ancestry.com These are the kind that are a book of township maps and you can tell where your ancestors' property was and there were 60 or so of them. I just looked at the Venango County 1868 maps and the Butler County ones. Lots of different counties. I think they still offer the free trial no credit card thing (not sure). Here's where I saw the link to the maps: http://www.familyoldphotos.com/pa Was back looking for more of my camera-shy ancestors.
