And I really need a new truck....... 4 wheel drive as it's tough to drive in Pgh during the winter without 4WD. This is getting ridiculous. I'm doing genealogy research on a shoestring, too. It appears a lot of people want a free ride. I have a large website for free with no limit to its size. I like that. Who doesn't like it when they can get something like this for free. True, in return advertising banners appear on every page. Maybe somewhere down the road there will be a charge for it. I would hope in return they would remove their banners. Only time will tell. I have a membership with Ancestry. When you calculate what I have access to and the charge, it is really not that expensive. I don't mind them sharing my information that I have posted. I freely share with others and lots of people have freely shared with me. I would not be as far along on my genealogy research if this wasn't the case. Life is full of changes. Some I don't like at all. I'm much more concerned about the state of things in this world. This change appears pretty minor to me in comparison. I am amazed at what this list allows on it. Most lists will not. Here people are using a free list to complain about the move that has been made. I think that if people want to make comments about this they should email each other. This list is for the sharing of genealogy information, not for what is taking place right now. I am on approximately 70 genealogy mailing lists on Rootsweb. There isn't much being said about the changes on any of them except for a few GenWeb sites stating they are changing to a different servor. :) Marianne Dillow Zelda Capehart <zcapehart@wildblue.net> wrote: This is getting ridiculous. There are no changes being made to RW lists ... changes in the system used to run the lists was done close to 2 years ago and I believe there will be nothing else done to them. The change of the url's to rootsweb-ancestry has no effect on the RW lists. USGenWeb was generously hosted, for free, by RW for many years however it is not part of RW or Ancestry but an independent group. Some state/county and special projects are moving to other servers - others are not. Does anyone on the list know of Weaver Vansant ca. 1805-ca. 1850? He was in Bucks County from 1829 through the last tax record I have for him in 1850. He was probably born there or in nearby Moreland Twp., Montgomery Co. or around Lower Dublin/Byberry in Philadelphia County. Weaver was a very poor farm laborer with a large family. His first wife was Ann Mitchner/Michener who he had at least two children with: Allen b. 1824 and Thomas b. 1827. Because his second wife was also named Ann (Ivins), it is difficult from his children's marriage and death records to determine which mother they had. Weaver was in Middletown and Bensalem from 1829 through the 1830's; Moreland Twp. in Montgomery Co. in 1840-41; in Falls Twp. for the balance of the 1840's, and may have been mistakenly recorded as William in Mansfield, Burlington County, NJ in 1850. However, a tax record in Falls Twp. for 1850 also shows him there. I believe he followed the crops and moved from farm to farm. Through the 1840's, he was living on a different farm in Falls practically every other year. His second wife, Ann Ivins, is believed to be the daughter of Samuel Ivins (1773-1809) and Lavinia unknown, and the granddaughter of Aaron Ivins and Ann Cheshire. Ann I. Vansant died in Falls Twp. 9/16/1849. Weaver and Ann's children are spread across various family members' homes in the 1850 census in Falls Twp. After literally thousands of hours research, I have yet to identify siblings for either Weaver or Ann, which seems very odd given the size of families in that time period. Through yDNA testing of two of Weaver's descendants, we know that he is also a descendant of Gerret Stoffelse Vansant, the progenitor of the Bucks County branch. However, Weaver's parents remain a mystery to me. I know that he existed but have not been able to find a birth, death, or marriage record for him. I've considered that Weaver was a nickname but since I have at least 20 documents that list him as Weaver, Wever, or Wearer, I believe that it was his real name. Please let me know if any of the above sounds familiar. Thanks for planting these names in your consciousness. Laurie in NJ
1. In a way Ancestry.com (to which I faithfully subscribe) will be taking credit for loads of possibly even more helpful data than what they currently offer (except for Census) and also adding a lot more unproved data, too. Will all changes not automatically boost Ancestry's already high subscription charges? 2. Why didn't ATT's Dish Network (which I have on trial basis) and all of those Cable deals which the multitudes fell for even before Gov. digital deadline of 2009 automatically remove commercials from all the channels we're now having to pay to see?
