Benjamin's father was James Carter he was married to Susannah Giffith. I am trying to trace James' father. He was William Carter. He came to US in 1682 on the ship Providence. William served one term as mayor of Philadelphia 10/3/1710. He was born in England 20 June 1651 and came to America with second wife Katherine and son James. possibly more children, don't know for sure. That's as far as I have been able to find. Any other info would be helpful.
