Posted on: Bucks Co. Pa Query Form Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Pa/Bucks/14686 Surname: ------------------------- There is a large problem here. First, I didn't know that all postings to this query board are circulated to the Bucks Co mailing list (I do not subscribe.) Therefore, I had no idea what people were talking about when they wrote to me as a result of my recent posting(s) having been sent to that list. Secondly, someone is sending viruses from or as a result of the mailing list. A friend of mine received a response to his posting to the query board, but it came as a result of his query-board posting being sent to the mailing list. Fortunately, his virus scanning program picked up that it contained a virus, so he didn't open it. Then, this morning I received an e-mail from a woman in response to a posting I made to the query board yesterday, except that she was also replying from the mailing list. It had an attachment, so I wrote back asking that she 'cut & paste' the info from the attachment into an e-mail message as I don't open attachments. She responded as follows: "If you have a virus scan, I would highly recommend using it. You sent me an attachment yesterday with your email (read the part you sent to the list) and it has a virus on it. My computer wasn't updated and now has a virus, and it can be fixed if you have a virus control. If you don't have one, I would seriously consider getting one. The virus on your computer is going to be W32.Magistr.24876@mm and it automatically links itself to your outgoing mail and can cause problems on your computer. I am going to send you the information from Norton." As I stated, I sent nothing to the list, and there's obviously no way to make an attachment to a posting on the query board, so I don't have any idea what attachment she could be talking about. By the way, the attachment she tried to send me was "Humor.TXT.pif". It sounds suspicious to me, as does the sales pitch for Norton. If this woman did, indeed, receive a virus in the e-mail she thought came from me, it must have come from whoever sends out the mailing list. Incidentally, I do have a virus scanning program (McAfee,) and my computer is clean. Thera
