Dear Linda, Sorry, I'm not a descendant of Benjamin & Amy Roberts, but I am a descendant of Benjamin's youngest brother John Roberts and his wife Nancy Updegrave. I have been researching all members of the Solebury twp. Roberts family, starting with Henry Roberts and his wife Mary Paxson. Their son William Roberts married Grace Hambleton and became the parents of your Benjamin and my John. Frankly, I have been stumped on a number of the lines, and I was very interested to see your posting. I assume that you are a descendant of Benjamin & Amy yourself, and I suppose that the information you posted about their children was taken from Bible records (or some similar family source). Let me show you what I found, because I may have information to complement your own, and because in a couple of cases, my information is slightly different: I have his wife's name as Mary, and a I have assumed a different death date for Benjamin. BENJAMIN ROBERTS, b. ca. 1760-4; d. 17 Apr 1828 m. 11 Feb 1794 Mary Vickers In the 7 August 1782 issue of the Pennsylvania Gazette, we find that Benjamin Roberts of Soleberry twp. gave notice that he had given a note for nine pounds to Joseph Cain, in exchange for a horse that had been stolen, and which had been subsequently taken from him; Benjamin thus served notice that he did not intend to pay the note to Cain or anyone else. Benjamin was married to Mary Vickers by John Wilson Esq. of Buckingham. Among the witnesses to the marriage were Henry Roberts (undoubted Benjamin's brother), John Pearson, Crispin Pearson, Jonathan Pearson, Jonathan White, David Forst, Sarah Forst, John Wilson, Joshua Beans, and 5 others. Benjamin bought land in Buckingham twp. from Samuel and Huldah Gilbert, and from Thomas and Esther Walton. He was convicted of debt, and sold the land on 29 May 1820 and 3 June 1820 (Bucks Co. Deed Book 48:86, 88). On 8 March 1826 he and his wife Mary sold land in Buckingham twp. again to Charles H. Roberts, cordwainer. The deed (Bucks Co. Deed Book 51:557) indicates that Benjamin was a blacksmith and had owned the land "for as many as 23 years past"; witnesses to the deed were Wm. Bailey and Jonathan C. Roberts. Benjamin's death was noted in the Doylestown Democrat issue of 29 April 1828, which said that he was of Buckingham, aged about 64 yrs. My only record of his children was taken from the 1807-8 lists of poor children to be educated at public expense: Benjamin's school-age children were given then as Joseph, Barzilia, Lettice, Zilpah. So I was very glad to see your complete listing of his children! By the way, Barzilia's death in 1812 was the subject of a coroner's inquiry. So what further information do you have? In particular, you say that Benjamin was buried in "Frankfort". I assume that this is Frankford, a section of northeast Philadelphia. Did he live in Frankford when he died? Does the death notice I quoted not refer to our Benjamin Roberts after all? Can you confirm that this family did live most of their lives in the Buckingham or Solebury area? >From the list of children, I suppose that there could only be descendants from Letitia, Zilpah, Hiram, Elizabeth, or Pauline. Actually, I think there might also be descendants from the oldest child Joseph (he was still living in 1808 at the time of the poor children list so probably did not die in 1797). Do you know if any of these children married, and to whom? Where did they live? And what more do you know of Peter & Ann Vickers' family? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I am happy to share what information I have collected, and would like to be able to piece these families together as best we can. I would be grateful if you had any comments, reactions, or further information. Jim
